I was just on one of the bmw forum, and two guys who each has an m5 uses thule k-summit when driving in the snow. i guess the thule k-summit is a pretty impressive chain as it doesnt need to wrap around the tires... I'm sure those m5 owners wouldnt just use chains on their 100k car, so not all chains are bad I guess. I plan on getting a pair of the k-summit for my gts

This should have been posted in the Evo X wheel and tire section in the marketplace, instead of resurrecting a year old thread.

Again, made by mitsubishi, and specifically for the evo. I paid $250 new. ASKING $100. Let me know.

We went up to Arrowhead (near Big Bear, for those not familiar) last year for Thanksgiving and no chains needed on the way up, but while we were there it snowed. We were in my wife's Honda Pilot (AWD) so we were ok, but the rest of my family was in fwd cars and they has some 'fun' getting down the hill, well it was actually getting up out of the little valley Arrowhead is in that was interesting as the main hightway was pretty clear.

Anyway...in the olden days when I was young and frugal, we could 'rent' snowchains or cables buy just returning them if you didn't use them within 30 days or whatever. Now I am told Pep Boys and the like either don't accept returns or charge a restocking fee for chains/cables.

Cheers.

4 real snow tires as narrow as possible, as explained on this forum with awd will get you most anywhere unless you hang up on real deep wet snow, another often omitted fact SNOW tires STOP much better!!!! could save a fender bender!!!!

Oh yeah what the heck does buying an evo have to do with my question, I have snow tires but wasn't sure if they still required chains. Like stated before ralliart is all wheel drive.
Just to help you out on this, if your front and/or rear is constantly slipping while the other isn't, you will eventually pop a CEL code for your ASC, and it will kick off and show you a "frame of a car with the wheels bent on one side", on your dash or you will get a "swerving car with a !". I dont think you will harm the vehicle, but you def. will confuse the hell out of your car.
