Weird reading for fuel on display

Ok so this morning I get in the car and warm it up (as usual), and I notice something weird. Last night when I parked I had "40 miles until empty", and the fuel bar was less than a 1/4 tank (which is completely normal). Turn the car on and it says 130 miles, kinda odd, but whatever.
So I stop off at the gas station on the way to work, and do a complete fill-up. Now it say "760 miles until empty", WTF?!?. What happened to the sensor, am I now supposed to divide by 3 to get a guesstimate? I understand the "XX until empty" is not accurate at all, but its supposed to be a rough ballpark figure. It's never said more than 280 on a full tank, now its telling me 760??
Any ideas how to fix this, or what went wrong?
The only thing different to my car recently is on Saturday I wired up a Prosport AFR. But this had no affect on it Saturday, Sunday, or Monday; so I'm very hesitant to think this had any affect on it
Thank,
-Steve-

afr is a gauge, what possible affect could it have? its a instrument of measure, nothing more.

The in car display is based off your driving habits. There is a possibility that it is wonky and needs to be reset. Holding the info button down is your friend my friend.

If it persists, and your afrs are normal, then its simply an electronic issue in the reading system itself and would be warranty.

Wow you are getting great gas mileage now, lol. I agree, try and reset and then see what happens. If the simple reset doesn't work try to disconnect the battery and reconnect. If that doesn't work then it probably is electrical related.

Like what westbound said, it all based on the way you drive. Whenever I drive up the grapevine (mountain pass) my car would say 90 miles till empty with 3/4 of a tank of gas. And when I going down it and my car would say 1500 miles to empty with half a tank left. That is because I barely touch the gas pedal while going downhill.

Well this right here tells me ur talking out ur butt; there isn't even a 4th digit possible on the display, 1500 miles (rolls eyes). Just one time take a pic of your supposed "4 digit miles until empty". The highest I've ever seen it go (not including this fluke of 760) was 320, while coasting on a 9% grade for 1.4 miles, no gas or brakes.
Any who to those with realistic remarks, thanks but problem is solved.
Mods please close as this staring to drift somewhere.....weird.

Believe me or not. I saw it with my own eyes on my cluster. I'm not here to start any false info.

it would be cool if you told us what the problem was and how you fixed it, in case someone else has this problem at another time.

Not entirely sure. The next time I got gas (not using the "mile until empty", but the bar graph as a guide) it reset back to normal showing "280 miles until empty" on a full tank. Very weird, maybe it mixed up some sort of reverse-backward-exponential Km/M formula??who knows...

Perhaps a sticky fuel quantity sending unit in the tank?

If it happens again i would suggest you return to the dealership before the warranty ran out.
