HKS to K&N Air Filter Test Comparisson

So I had a HKS filter for about 7k miles. What I really like about it was the sucking sound but I didn't really notice a performance difference especially once I put the stock filter back in.

So a few days ago I bought a K&N air filter. It doesn't really do a sucking sound but I do notice a performance difference especially at higher RPM's.

Anyone else have this same experience?

I haven't tried the HKS filter but I put on the K&N 2 weeks after I bought the car and I too noticed a little performance difference.

I'd say it's placebo too...

But if someone can bring some dyno sheet to prove/disprove the benefit of putting those filters that would be nice.

YOU WOULD NEVER feel that type of a difference....

Placebo effect x a million....

Thats just not a part that you would notice much on other than the noise...

also are you talking about stock air filter system or removing the box and adding a cone filter?

Stock filter style...didn't know you could fit a cone in there.

I also tried all 3 filters with a stock cobb 91 tune and noticed the most difference with a K&N.

Do u have to do any type of tuning with a cone on it or would something like the gst basemap work with it?

With a cone type filter, I would expect that you would want a tune. Some vendors say that a tune isn't required with their intakes, but I would tune it anyways just to be safe. I'm just running a K&N drop in and I have the gst basemap, which works great. I'm not worried about 2hp . I wanted the filter so that I don't need to change it again. I can hear the turbo and diverter valve a bit better now. That's bonus.

+1

that's the main reason I got the K&N drop-in also. being able to hear in induction system better was just a side bonus IMO. Nice thing is that it's not annoyingly loud...

K&N Drop in Replacement filter is good for 3HP - 8HP. May still be plecebo effect, but I think it's a pretty decent bang for the buck.

See the link below for actual dyno results:
