Having used a K&N filter in another car for over 10 years with absolutely no problems with a MAF, but in fairness I will say keeping it oiled at the correct level can be a little challenging.
Oil only one side of the filter (side away from the MAF) and let it sit for 1 day before re-installing into the car.
Also, in my experience I have found K&N's gauze material to break down over time, causing tiny holes. That's not exactly conducive to proper filtration, so I replaced mine on average every 3 years.
