Winter gas and temps will hurt fuel milage. Wait until summer time and things should be better.

Driving in Sport/Auto on the highway would be dumb. Driving in Sport/Manual would be fine. Unfortunately cruise control doesn't work in Sport/Manual mode

Just finished with a little experiment.
- did 115 miles over a normal week of driving.
- never went above 3,000 rpm with even one shift (very painfull..lol)
- coasted as much as I could.
- drove in D, Normal, Tarmac, the whole time.
- no hwy. All rural NJ.
I got 15.9 mpg. HOLY S***. Not good...........
I have to say I am a little surprised. I thought I would be able to get at least 18-19.

I love this car. But this is really pissing me off.

BTW Just came from the dealer a few weeks ago. I was getting my radio fixed.
(which they didn't fix) Was going to mention it but it never came up do to the fact I walked out on the service manager because they put a new radio in and I still have the same problem, but, they somehow cant hear it now. A H*****. I guess I am going back.

Any thoughts.

Maybe it's the digital guage that's wrong and you just THINK you're getting lower mileage than you really are. Try it manually by filling the tank and keeping track of how many gallons you put in and how many miles you are able to drive on that number of gallons until it gets back to the same level it was when you filled it up. Then do the math and see if the car's computer matches up to what the real number of miles you achieved per gallon of gas used.

I do it manually. I dont use the gauge at all. If it didn't reset itself all the time it would be kind of accurate. But since it resets every 4 hours, its totally useless in the long term . I use a little note book I keep in my glove box. I write down every fill. I also use the a Car app for my phone.
BTW I was wondering if all the people posting on here that say they get good mileage use the gauge, or track it manually. Because if you say you have good mileage and are using the gauge to quantify it, I hate to say it, its just not accurate.

I use a tracker on my iPhone, I use to just keep the info in a spread sheet on a Blackberry. As of the second tank of gas I am getting 24.45 MPG.

I have been tracking mine manually for almost a year. I have a spread sheet and have gotten a tank average of 16-26mpg. The 16 was a few months ago letting it idle most mornings while I scrape ice off the windows with the 26 all freeway with drafting.

I have raised hell a few times and never got lower than 16mpg, so lower than 15mpg is definately not right.

i track mine manually, and do my mileage between fill ups. with mixed city and freeway driving, I get between 20 and 22MPG...

I only use the "instant" mileage as a tool to try and get better mpgs while driving. The best i've seen that read with the GST Boost Pill Base Map v2.5 flash is 29.8 MPG on my drive into work, which is ALL down hill. The best I've seen it read on my way home with the same flash is 18MPG.

I don't get below 15 mpg and I'm one of those guys that thinks the whole world and the kid on his skateboard down the street is racing him. The best Milage I've gotten is 30 mpg but I drove for an hour and a half at 65

Driving from MA to NJ with new RA, the center info stack displayed 23.3 average mpg. Not bad at all, considering I would never get above 18/19 in my Forester turbo.

I am on a roadtrip and the best I have gotten is about 24mpg, saw 360mi to empty yesterday, which is the best I have seen.

Have to say that I have enjoyed my Sportback on this trip. Ride has been fine, and the Recaro's are comfortable.

how did u only get 15mpg if u got 360miles a tank? 360/15.2(tank capacity) = 23.6 and im sure u didnt dry the tank out so u had have gotten around 25-27mpg.

ive been average about 280-320miles a tank.
