UPDATE: DC Sports Exhaust
Hey Guys,
Sorry I wasn't able to report back yesterday, it was a LOOONG day, didn't get home until 7:30 and then had to do a pp presentation for tonite (didn't even make it to work yesterday).
Anywho, here's the scoop:
Went down to DC's new location at 9am, original plan was to throw the car on the lift, see what's what, swap for new parts if need be, and jump back into traffic to go to work. About 1-1.5 hr; wellll, not so much....
My point of contact through this...experience...has been William. Really great guy, very easy to work with; in fact everyone at DC was really nice and helpful. To start out the lift wasn't working (blew a fuse) as their new warehouse is currently under construction (this place is massive, 470K sq ft!!! not just DC, several other subsidiaries under their mother corp Pilot Automotive Group), so we had to use jack stands. As I had stated in various other threads, the resonator chamber was grinding and banging on my drive shaft. At first William thought that perhaps my cp-E HFC might be the reason; the original RA-SB that was used for the tooling was designed around the use of the stock cat. So we threw that on; it made a "bit" more room, but as soon as we took the car for a drive it started grinding and banging again. So jack the car back up (by now 2.5 hrs have gone by), swap out everything except for the muffler, in hopes that maybe that one unit was "off", from welding or whatever. One of the guys drove me to get some food (it was 1:30 by now) and when we returned the car was ready for a second test drive. This time there was no noise, it seemed the problem had been fixed! Unfortunately my HFC was not connected, but William was totally understanding and offered to give me a pair of flanges (the exact ones used for this CBE) to take to an exhaust shop; the idea was weld on the new flanges that would line up "perfectly" with the DC CBE, and I would be good as new.
William was very appreciative of my patiences, and hooked me up with their brand uicp package
. Great timing too cuz I have my new IC showing up tmw, and I've been trying to source some parts that are compatible with this EVO designed IC. So that was very cool of DC, and good customer service in my opinion. He wraps up my stock exhaust and loads my baby up for the long drive home (it was 2:45 and I had called my boss to say "I wont be making it in today" ;p ) I jump on the 605 freeway, and a soon as I hit 60mph, I hear it....a very slight grinding sound. I immediately jump off the freeway, and as I'm on the off ramp it starts getting louder and much worse, right back to its previous severity. So I turn around and head right back to DC, totally bummed as I REALLY wanted this exhaust to work.
William had to jack up my car again ("nothing makes you appreciate having a lift, like when you have to jack up the same car 4 times in 1 day", haha!) He agrees that yes something is definitely wrong with this particular CBE
, and states he will call UltraRev to authorize my refund today (DC does not do any sales).
So thats the bad news, now for the good:
DC is DEFINITELY being proactive about getting this issue resolved. They have coordinated for the original RA-SB that tooling was designed from (a corporate employee, I want to say in marketing, but I don't recall exactly what he does), as well as the Super Street RA-SB (William built that car himself
), to come in next week for testing. They need to find out if either A) something in the original tooling was off, or B) something in this production run was off. Once that is figured out they will know how to solve this issue. They have received a couple of emails from others stating their CBE is banging, but mine is the only know grinding issue, to date. Hopefully within 2 weeks they will have a new production run starting, at which point yours truly will receive "the hook-up".
In light of all of this, it would be really easy to simply point the dirty end of the stick at DC, and give them the cold shoulder. But, I truly believe they are doing everything necessary to get this resolved as quickly as humanly possible. Williams' own MR is a sporting a modified version this exhaust, as he prefers its' more "subtle" natural to the traditional EVO exhaust. While yes it did take them a bit too long to initially get into contact with me, I understand why. Pilot had DC employee's move the warehouse themselves, so I took them quite a while between a handful of employees to get things operational.
DC has proven themselves many time over the years with their rather large catalog of quality parts, and I for one am giving them the benefit of the doubt
. William will be contacting me next week once they have pin-pointed the exact cause (could be company they use actually weld the part together, who knows at this point...), at which time I will be giving everyone an update.
-Steve-
P.S. There have been significantly more "perfectly fine" CBE reported, than those with issues. It seems to be mostly this latest (3rd?) production run issue. However, if you are concerned, take your car to an exhaust shop and have them look at it. If they deem there to be an issue contact DC directly, for their 12-month warranty.

Ultimate Racing owns all. UR is a head turner and DC well.......For 500$ you should expect a cheaper product resulting in potential problems like you had.
You pay for wat you get.
You cannot get that brilliant tone UR will give you.

Glad to hear DC is taking care of you, hope you get it all worked out quickly.
I'm always amazed at the audacity of some of the comments from the peanut gallery. We are all entitled to our own OPINIONS of what WE think is the best exhaust FOR US, but some just seem to go way over board with the derogatory comments. Apparently they seem to think the rest of us are incapable of deciding what is best for us, and only they know best. They seem to forget that each of us is entitled to make these choices for ourselves, and their degrading comments are nothing more than unsubstantiated opinions that are neither helpful, or warranted.
Personally, I own some Ultimate Racing parts and am ordering a few other items very soon. But after considering every exhaust systems available I can say with certainty, I would NEVER OWN THEIR CATBACK EXHAUST, EVEN IF IT WAS GIVEN TO ME.
You've got a nice ride there that sounds like it handles sweetly, enjoy it!

i hope the one i ordered doesn't have problems, otherwise i'm giving up this exhaust search. i've had problems with hks exhausts arriving damaged and don't have the patience anymore (too busy with work!)
I'm glad to hear that DC SPORTS is helping you out. I am taking my car to a shop on Saturday to fix the exhaust leak at the cat-midpipe connection. This exhaust leak is completely my fault and in no way DC SPORTS' fault. Although, I'm not quite sure why they didn't just provide two new bolts instead of making us reuse the 17mm bolts.
Nonetheless, I'm pretty sure my problems are due to the leak.
