It is VERY easy to prove an X turbo on a RA does increase the power significantly...... thus if it went to court they could very easily "prove" the oem turbo swap killed a motor or any other piece of the drive train. Not to mention that just installing an X turbo without modifying the factory RA tune would probably result in a catastrophic failure within a few hundred miles or spirited driving.

On another note:
Yes there is a flash counter, but thus far it seems even the mitsu tools are not reading the correct address and thus they cannot tell, at this time, how many times the ecu has been flashed. This is pure speculation at this point i believe (that they do not have a tool that reads the correct address within mitsubishi), but since the counter exists, it would only take a few weeks for mitsu to update the tools to read it correctly.

For the most part though, so long as all the hard parts stay stock I would not be at all worried about flashing in a good tune and flashing back to stock for trips to the dealer.... but... the caveat is that ALL the parts stay stock... including the boost control system.. intake... exhaust.... I'm sure you could get away with a catback exhaust so long as you leave the factory cat and 02 sensors alone.
Maybe people on here who whinge about losing warranty, should actually try challenging it. I can assure you Engineering specification testing requires motors to withstand substantial abuse without failure generally with a safety factor of 1.5 to 2.0 to 1.

Fact - in Australia TMR sell both modified Ralliart's and Evo's flashed tuned and modded with full factory warranty. This means the mods are approved by Mitsubishi and adding the same mods to the same car would therefore be arguable as approved modifications.

I am not talking about 550 hp fire breathing monsters but mods that should be within the engineering specifications of the motor and driveline.

I am not an internet armchair expert I spent Fifteen years in automotive 5 years as senior test engineer for an OEM supplier (including mitsubishi testing) ten years with one of the big three including the last 4 years as the Production system Manager for Asia Pacific and Africa with responsibility for plants across multiple countries.

My point is this everyone whinges about voiding their warranty but no one has challenged it and in some case there probably is a good case for a challenge. Ive even seen people including a recent thread accepting the dealer say they have to pay for clear warranty work or diagnostics.

In all cases you should push as hard as you can there is nothing to lose if you get no joy from the dealer start pushing it up the chain.

I drive a modded RA and soon to be evo x swap and there are some risks in regards to warranty I am happy to take. But if I felt that I had a claim i would fight it to the death.
