Hi lancer experts,

Had my swift springs and DC sports cat back exhaust installed 2 days ago.

While the store (not an exhaust shop stupid me) told me that the piping of the exhaust was crazy close to my driveshaft. The heated up and tried to give it more clearance however not a huge clearance.

Today while driving the car I heard a bang/clunk noise coming from the rear while going down levels in a carpark as well as when going over speed humps. Also heard a high pitch screech/grind sound also when turning corners.

Does this sound like the exhaust hitting the drive shaft or something else?? I've book my car into the exhaust shop but they are so busy that I won't get the car in there till Wednesday next week.

This is driving me crazy noise coming from a new car erghhh!! What will the exhaust shop be doing. Don't want to be taken for a ride.

Cheers everyone

Gaston

Can I still drive the car before I take it to the exhaust shop?

try looking under the car an inspecting it for damage/ scratches. locate the part that they said is hitting the driveshaft. im pretty sure this is a common problem for Dc catback owners. As for the screeching it could be the springs breaking in?

I would be surprised to see an exhaust touching the driveshaft while moving if they are not touching while you're stopped. Both are fairly fixed. Are you sure it is not the exhaust touching the ground? With a dropped car this is what I would be worried about...

As mentionned before just lift the car a little and look for scrape marks...

Apparently the DC exhaust has clearance issues.

If you searching around, there was a thread for the guy who had the same problems. DC even got involved to rectify the situation. I can't remember but he might have been the owner of the car they used to test fit/design it.

Either way search around, not the first time I'm hearing of it.

The screeching from taking cornings maybe ur springs. It took over two months for that to go away on my gts. And still came up when it was 50 degrees or cooler in the morning.

6 months later DC still can't get the exhaust right, not entirely shocked. Their position involving the problem was 'blame game', everyone but themselves. Unfortunately the price is so cheap, that people continue to buy it in hopes they "get one that works". Still a coin flip as far I'm concerned...

Agreed. The sound of this exhaust is good from everything I've heard, but too many people are having fit/finish problems after installation and I personally wouldn't take the risk of buying their product and then having to deal with such issues...

I got the DC sports exhaust and experienced this hitting the drive shaft situation..i only experienced it hitting when i let off the gas. it seemed that is when the exhaust would shake enough to hit the drive shaft. i found a fix to this problem by removing just one of the rubber hangers giving it enough clearance to not hit the drive shaft. I have be running like this since march with no problems...but like other said gota lift the car up and check it out to truly know whats going on

Ok then update. Took it to an exhaust shop and lifted it up. It was hitting my driveshaft so they had to modify it by rewelding it to give it enough clearance.

Ok so I dont hear anything while driving around normally... However when going over a speed hump or going on an incline or decline for example in a parking lot I still hear a clank/rub sound at the rear of the car..... The car is lowered an inch I highly doubt that the exhaust is touching the ground.... or could it.

If someone can chime in with there experiences with exhausts and lowering it would be great.

I had the same issue with the dc sports exhaust rubbing the driveshaft. I love the exhaust but it gave me a real head ache till an exhaust shop fixed it. As for lowering, it's probably not the exhaust, I have a 1.5 drop in the back and no hitting so I'm thinking springs.

Keep updating the thread as I'm interested to see what the problem is

Ok well I've had an exhaust shop re weld my exhaust to clear the driveshaft fixed as this was still touching .

Using the process of elimination I've rectified the exhaust so the springs may be the culprit. Hoping they sort it all out taking the car there in a couple days to get the springs checked hopefully they fix it. Were mentioning something about springs touching hence making that noise so they said they may need to wrap the springs to stop the noise. Will have an update once I get the car looked at.

Why waste money on an obviously defective product? Toss that POS; with the money you have spent trying to get it fixed, your "savings" compared to a better brand went out the window....

Only cost me $70 to fix up and 40 minutes to do.. Hardly think that will break the bank. Considering the other brands cost over $1000, car parts in Australia cost a fortune compared to you guys. This is more than double of what I have paid. The end result for the exhaust is good

I've had issues with mine since day one, I even took it to an exhaust shop that bent all my hangers. It was fine for a few weeks and the rubbing began again, I dropped the midpipe and took a hammer to the resonator and it's okay untill I go on the highway and it begins.

I e-mailed DC Sports and provided pictures of the rubbing, no response.
