Sorry to bump a old topic but I want to follow up on this and get some pointers.

The best I've been able to pull off is a 1.9 60 foot with a 13.56 1/4 mile with a very rich run in tune. This is about to change and I've been using the tap tap tap method although i think i've been tapping way to slow/long rather than quick dabs.

I've read a few threads from chi-town and I'm hoping he might be able to answer this. Do you launch by doing the tap tap tap method and then after the yellow lights start, you then brake boost and release on the final yellow? Sort of like a hybrid launch but only brake boosting towards the end?

Any other tips would be fantastic, like do you need to do anything to say coilover tension or tyre pressure?

Thanks

That's exactly correct. Once you're staged tap tap tap around 2-3k rpm. As soon as the lights start to drop, brake-boost until the last yellow, then let out the brake quickly and off you go.

Do you change tyre pressure, adjust coilovers and change differential settings(snow, tarmac, gravel)?

Tire pressures around 28-30 psi.

I don't have coils, just lowering springs. If you are on coils and can adjust, you'll want to go with full-soft damping. No need to change ride height, unless you ride around somewhat close to full height. You can differ damping front and rear, to adjust your squat/takeoff, but you won't see much difference doing that unless you are having major traction issues.

AWC in Gravel mode, though doesn't really make much difference.

ASC off.

Ok so I've be tuned with Beeble now and managed to get 270hp atw and have launch control and super sports.

How do you launch in launch control for the ralliart . Do you do the same tap tap method but at a higher rpm? I sorta screwed my launches the other night but done 13.3 but wanted to see if their was some info on how to do it best for the ralliart. I had a evo X MR their on the night and he done 12.8 with only 240hp atw and said it was all to do with my launch. 60 foot was 1.9

Cheers

See the thing that really ****s me off is people doing 12's with just the boost pill and flash, clearly I'm doing something incredibly wrong

Are you shifting for yourself or leaving it in auto? Making sure the asc is off? Still on stock wheels and tires? You should absolutely be in the 12's, even with a 1.9 60'.

I'm really interested in your techniques chi-town cuz you have the fastest ralliart and I know you've got it downpat haha. I've tried both but just got ssports with launch control through beeble. I currently have 200kw atw on a mainline dyno.

I went to the track the other day with the intention of testing the tap tap tap vs LC auto. I put it in gravel mode with asc off and tried the tap tap tap, it launched well (around 3500) but before getting half way through 1st the car came up with the slown down warning for the sst then released all my boost lol still done a 13.7.

The second time I attempted launch control but I think i was too hestitant and didnt actually engage it at 5k(as much as I thought) and it was pretty boggy.

My final launch was pretty much the same as my second and got the 13.3 but didnt feel aggressive what so ever.

#######

I decided to go to my own private 1/4 tarmac and tested out launching, stuffed up the first one and pushed the gear to neutral and yer gave up on that one . The second time I done it completely in auto mode(asc off super sports, gravel etc), fluttered to 3 once then slammed to 5k with the brake fully engaged and it felt like a rollercoaster but also had a overheating message come on the dash.

Usually I know I've launched good when I get a stomach churning feeling. I'm currently running Evo X BBS with the crappy yokohamas on it but I reduced the pressure to 30 at the front and 28 at the rear.

I confirmed with another guy their with a MR he only had 240hp atw and was pulling 12.8 with 1.8-1.9 60 footers. He pretty much said you should be on par with my car if you can get your launch down. He was finishing at 173km/h(107.4mph) and i was finishing pretty much at 163.5km/h(101.5mph)every time so yer .

You need to upgrade your turbo to the RAD Lite or EvoX turbo, and then you'll put down better times. The Evo that you mentioned with "only" 240hp may not have as much PEAK hp as you, but the dual scroll capability allows it to maintain that horsepower and torque for a longer period of time and thus gives him faster quarter mile times as well as the higher mph speeds at the finish line which you've noted.

Definately. But I think Chi-Town is right that I should be capable of 12s, I mean I read people done it with just the gst basemap and boost pill which really disappoints me

It sounds like your first attempt you mentioned with the tap launch was just a hair too aggressive and the SST backed off at the last minute. The real trick is not spending too much time on the launch so you don't have the heat buildup that causes the "slow down" message. Just a few quick taps up to 2.5-3k rpm, then mash the brake and accel for maybe half a second (it's easier to judge at the track using the "sportsman" tree and just timing with the last 2 yellow lights) then let fully out on the brake and keep that accelerator to the floor.

If you haven't already, get a fan onto the back of your transmission cooler, it makes more difference than you think, especially when you're just sitting still. Also, you can try misting the cooler with a spray bottle before staging, but having a fan here is key, as well, since it will keep the air moving across the wet fins and cool more effectively.

Like getting a water spray pump pack or something and spraying onto the cooler? My next upgrade will be a trans cooler and rigging up a oil cooler for the td05 conversion(something I'll have a chat with you about I think you've successfully installed one ).

I had a few more whirls at launch control and everything seems sweet but it always winges about overheating so I'll see what I can do. I have another session next wednesday night so is their anything else you can suggest and I'll try my best to do it(obviously a trans cooler wont be installed yet because I'll need to order it and fit it haha).

Cheers
