2010 Lancer, is it my alternator or battery?
My car struggles in the mourning sometimes cranking over when it is cold out and my car is garage kept with under 3000 miles. You can check your battery in the mourning with a DMM and it should have around 12v and with the car running it should have around 14v.
this happened to me 2 weeks ago (without draining the battery), and just this morning again and my battery was dead this time.
i have HIDs. I think thats the issue. I had a jrox harness, but it broke and he wouldnt replace it so I have been just leaving my lights on all the time (if i dont leave them on you get pretty bad flicker). I figured since they shut off by themselves i would be fine. 2 weeks ago I came outside in the morning and my lights were on. I KNOW they were off the night before. Started the car up and everything was fine.
This morning, my battery was completely dead. Again, I KNOW my lights were off. My gf gets home after me and should would have seen it. Plus, the lights are supposed to turn off by themselves.
I think it has something to do with the HIDs plug-play directly to the headlights.

Your problem is a TSB update that needs to be done by the dealer. Its a known problem that was with the Outlander with HID's and the same thing is happening to our cars with the same equipment. I had AEM gauges and everything and I had the same problem. Going to work in the morning i would go out to my car and I would have a dead battery. I actually managed to catch it one morning when the people next door called and told me my lights were flashing on and off because my battery was so low and could not fire both HID's at the same time. Almost looked like a police car, kinda cool yet REALLY BAD for the HID's. What happens is when you park and your lights are in the AUTO on/off position your car turns its lights on by itself sometime during the night or whenever thus draining your battery. Take you car into your dealer and get them to update your car to fix this issue. It is a known issue. Just tell the dealer your HID's are coming on by themselves draining your battery. Mention the Outlander and it was a issue with them as well.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.

happens to my car couple times a year. if i unlock it with the remote and dont lock it my yellow lights stay on. if it was the alternator the car wouldnt drive for more than a few minutes without dying. try turning off the lights when its parked an make sure no lights are on when u leave it parked. and if it keeps dying try a new battery that will hold a charge better.
this has been happeneing to me, battery was always in the low 12's and high 11's for voltage when i keyed it after the car had been stopped awhile
just had the dealership replace the battery under warranty... btw the battery warranty is 2 years for replacement after that they pro-rate the cost of it towards a new battery
