2010 Lancer, is it my alternator or battery?

I have a 2010 Lancer Ralliart and every now and then, on the colder mornings, my battery is completely dead. I have a 1000watt amp in the car for my subwoofers (With a large capacitor), a viper 5901 remote starter, and HID's on my highs/lows. I had the battery tested at an autozone and they said it was fine. Could it be that I just need a higher capacity Alternator? Or could it still be that the battery just cant hold a charge?

This has happened to me 3 times in one year. Ive noticed on all the times its happened my lights were left in the "on: position. (we have automatic lights so I saw them turn off when I opened the door) Its been about 4 months since its happened but now I always turn my lights off when I park.

How did you know it was your battery that was bad?

And are you saying that the lights draw some power even though if you leave your lights on, and open the door when you shut the car off the lights shut off after ~5 seconds??

If you have the original Panasonic battery, you've probably killed it and it doesn't hold a full charge. If you pull it out and take it to the auto-parts store they can tell you for sure with a battery tester. That will tell them how many Cold Cranking Amps are available.

I have a 2010 and just replaced the battery 2 weeks ago. While the cranking amps weren't bad for a N/A car (480/550), it was too little to get this car going (especially for cold starts). These Panasonics are known to be a weak point, only lasting 2 years at the most (1.5 for me).

I had no idea. I didn’t even suspect the battery. I bought & swap the starter which did not work so then I brought it to a shop and they told me lol. Sucks cuz i spent all that time looking for the starter and removing it. Well now I know how to change a starter lol.

Well they didnt say it was bad for sure but they said it was completly drained and one of the cells must be bad. So I brought it to auto zone like you did and they said it's a bad battery and gave me a new one.

Find out what your cranking amps are, that is the issue. If less than 500 I would replace.

This seems like an issue with most Ralliarts.
Some mornings I find that it seems as if the car is struggling to start

Its just the wiring they use.I also have trouble starting in cold weather. If you open your hood and take a look at your alternator ground wire you will understand what i am talking about. I would highly recommend the Big 3 not only for you audio freaks but also daily drivers.
