Ralliart Winter Tires

Hey guys,

I am looking to get some winter tires, what tires you use or recommend.

I was planning on getting something in the 205/55R16 range to help with the winters up here in Canada.

Some I looked at were Continental extreme winter contact and Nokian R's

What about you guys?

C

Michelin X-Ice II and Bridgestone Blizzaks are popular choices, but many believe the Nokian Hakkapeliitta tires are one of the best. They use a proprietary silica compound which gives them better flexibility at lower temps, meaning more grip. Many rally teams use this brand of tire for winter rallies. Instead of a 205/55R16, go with a 205/60R16. A bit of extra sidewall will give you more flex, and since this is the stock size on the Lancer, it won't throw your speedo out.

I love my Blizzaks so far but I went with a larger size as I am using the stock 18" rims.

I was thinking on grabbing 55R16 but you are aright about the flex I might grab the 60R16 then. Thanks for the tips!

i have hankook ice bears and the only thing i can say about them is that they are 100x better than the stock slicks, so they get a +1 rating from me

I have the Bridgestone Blizzak's mounted on my stock wheels. I never have any issues in the snow.

If u want the absolutely most batsh*t winter tires, blizzaks. Otherwise, the conti EWC's are probably the best non-multi-cell-tube-thing winter tire out there.

I have the michelin x-ice xi2's and on slush/powder, they're actually only just as good as my continental DWS all-seasons, surprisingly. In fact, in the slush or fresh snow, I can stop BETTER with my DWS's than x-ice xi2's because the DWS's seem to have more voids in it. However, on hard pack slick snow and ice, the xi2's are better.

The tire all depends on the climate. Up here we get black ice and not so much slush so a tire that can stop on a dime on smooth ice is the way to go.

I've been running a set of Michelin X-Ice 2s on the stock wheels and they were great during the week I spent in Michigan over the holidays. Too bad we haven't gotten a real snow out here yet. :,(

In the dry/wet they've been very well behaved. Much improved over the General Altimax setup I ran last winter.
