If he gets tickets, make him pay for his insurance, mine went high as f**k and now I have to pay for it :| I learned my lesson from that. My friend also got a RA a few months before he turned 18. They can be a lot of trouble and depends how mature he is. Let him you only live once!

That.

Give a what? You did not finish your sentence. Also, I am having trouble understanding the point of your argument. OP should buy his son an RA, despite the examples you have given, simply because "you only live once"?

He was talking about that super cool story (bro) in which you described losing your license. I used to speed, too. I learned my lesson a long time before they took my license away.

Selling points of this car:
1). It is really safe.
2). It is kind of practical. The Sportback is king in this department.
3). It doesn't cost a fortune.

Downsides:
1). It doesn't get the best gas mileage, around.
2). Maintenance can be costly. God forbid you void the warranty and need a new transmission.
3). There is a kid here at Duke who put "Milr Tme" on his license plate and drives a black RA. He is a d-bag (maybe the biggest d-bag ever). If you can stomach the thought of driving the same car that he does, then you are more man than I. I guess a different color would be acceptable. Black has been killed.

I think that if I had to buy a 17 y/o a car, it would be a Saab 9-3 Aero. They are turbocharged, and that is kind of cool. It is a pretty car. And they are DIRT cheap, because Saab just went out of business. With that being said...

I 2nd that, my 1st car was a 88 be cabriolet (rag top) and I was 16 years old and I ran that into the ground. It was given to me by my brother an I think judging from experience you should not waste the money on a car like these and get him something cheap...

Evo or bust.

240hp is NOTHING. Even for a 17 year old.

Seriously though, any kid who is not a incompetent ******* should easily be able to handle 240BHP, that is like less than 200whp.

But as a first car a new Ralliart isn't too bad.

Serious answer to the OP, it depends on the kid. If he is mature, no problem. If he is like the morons in this thread, then don't do it.

Thread cleaned, take your arguing elsewhere. Enough with the stupidity.

bwanner - you seem to be going out of your way to prove the point of the people you're arguing against. I'm sure they appreciate it.

The SE is new for 2012. It's the same 168 HP 2.4L that's in the GT (they renamed the GTS too for 2012), but the Special Edition has All Wheel Control.
