Better question...which is a kid more likely to survive from? Going 100+ MPH in a old galant on 185 H rated tires and suspension that is so worn that they bounced when you sit on them...or in an M5 doing 140? Yes your chance of survival if something happens in either case is pretty bad...but just because you give a kid a cruddy car doesn't mean they wont do something incredabily stupid...and cars designed to go fast tend to have better safety measure and control.
Nonetheless, point taken on putting the kid in a safe car above all.
