Did anyone do not change the filter at the first engine oil change service?

I just wonder did anyone do not change the filter at the first engine oil change service?

I thought I have to change it every time I change the oil, but it seems like filter change only appear on the second service. How often should I change the filter?

Moreover, how often should I rotate the tire and do the inspection by the mitsubishi? everytime during the service like what they have scheduled?

Just like it says in the manual, it depends on the type of driving you do. Do you do any of the habits under severe driving? like stop n go traffic? hard braking? prolonged idle? stuff like that.

If you are under severe driving i would do both the oil filter and rotation at any scheduled maintenance. Course even if I wasn't in the severe category i would do it for extra protection. But thats just me, and your financial situation could be different. I dont mind shelling out extra for it.

I do oil, oil filter, and tire rotation every 5k miles.

If you're paranoid about it, you could always do an oil analysis test to get a better idea when/how often you change the oil and filter.

change your oil and filter everytime you drive the car, it's the only way to be sure...

otherwise just follow the maintenance schedule

Under normal wear (not aggressive driving) and tear (no track runs) and 2 tests from black stone on Amsoil 5w-30 signature series and the filter is Amsoil 15k mile filter. The tests revealed that its recommended both oil and filter every 5k miles. but those are the results that I've got you may find different.

Over the life of the car, say 120000 miles, if you split the severe/regular duty cycle and change at 4000 miles, you're looking at 30 oil changes. Suppose you change it every time or every other time, it's a difference of 15 oil filters. You can get a pretty good quality filter on sale (or even the OEM) for like, 10 bucks.

150 bucks over 120,000 miles. I'd say change it.

OEM filter is like 7 bucks, retail cost. Shop online and you can get them for cheaper. For that factor alone, why wouldn't you change it?
