Dealership refuses to use lube while they rape me.

So i'm due for a type 'c' service. Buddy says that includes an oil change ($100+) an inspection of some sort ($170) and another brake inspection for another hundred and some odd dollars for a total of $455.93 CDN.

What the hell? Is this normal???

Being a service manager at a high end independent I would advise you go to an AAA approved repair shop (can find them using your address on their website) and have them do the oil and filter service and a comprehensive vehicle inspection or whatever their title is for the same. Assuming synthetic oil these two things would run ~$110 + tax USD at my shop. For regular repairs/maintenance/menu item services a dealer will be very close to a quality independent on price but usually fall short on warranty (dealer is 1yr/12k we are 3yr/36k for example). The only real place to save over the dealer is on these interval services where they charge $400+ for what is essentially an oil and filter service and inspection. That's the only real raping going on, although it is pretty hard without lube.

Okay, so now i don't know what is going on... I called another dealership and said I need the 24K service on and they said I need the "Evo 2 service" which is only 235.00. Great! I called up the guy and said that the other dealership was going to charge $450 and I said that included an oil change and inspection and some break inspection. He confirmed that was included in his quote.

So I Called back the first place, and told them the other dealership was going to charge 1/2 as much, and if there was some sort of mistake. They had never heard of an Evo 2 service and insisted that whatever computer program they use is right. Now I'm really confused. Are all the dealers independant from one another?? What is going on? Why is this so bloody complicated?

Why are you paying 100+ for an oil change? Go to Canadian tire and pick up some Mobil-1 and a filter (or whatever oil you like) and then get them to change it. I think I pay around 60-70 when all is said and done.

$60 buck for an oil change is not bad at all considering the almost $10 per quart (synthetic) plus oem filter & crush washer is about that.....

Its not complicated-- part of owning a new car--should have checked this before you bought the car. Next, why would you go back the the first dealer who his dry humping you and ask for lube---your still going to get f'd. really? Do you think he would do the same job at half the price? No way he will do nothing and charge you the 200+ dollars. Take it to the guy you trust , do it yourself or get rid of it. Dealers are here to make money, take advantage of the uneducated , unsuspecting and those with more dollars then sence--hence the last place to take your car unless you fall into the above catagories.

I think I paid $68 for my last one. Mobil-1 full synthetic and the filter were on sale at Canadian Tire. I think they charged me $18 to change it while they worked on some other stuff.

I guess i figured that the dealerships would all have similar service levels and prices.... Anyway, I'm just really surprised That the difference in cost would be so huge. I guess mitsu just lets the dealerships create there own service levels and prices. As long as they include the checks in the manual, they can add any additional checks they want and charge what they charge.

That would explain why the dealer's systems aren't hooked up; they each run their own system.

I have an appt at the cheaper of the two dealerships... And i did look into maintenance costs before purchase. I bought from the dealership I now have an appointment with, so that was why i was so surprised when i was quoted $450!

I prefer to have the larger service intervals done by a dealership, at least while under warranty. I expect to pay more, but i don't want to be outright fleeced!

if you're talking about 24k KM service... that would include AWC service.. Transfer Case etc etc ... the whole list should be in ur Service Manual

I just called for 48k KM service ... 600$ for SST, 280$ for AWC+Trasf Case+LSD, 250 for Drive Belt + 80$ Oil change + 70$ Filter Change + "inspection" ... 1400+TX CAN total ...

have fun

Here is my 24k service:
80$ Oil Change
80$ Transfer Case Fluid Change
50$ LSD/Rear Diff Fluid Change
36$ AWC pump "service"
total 280$ tax in

"initial_d2k" is right. My dealer doesn't even acknowledge that I have to change my SST oil. Bring the manual in with you, or a list from here, and say here this is what I need done.

I'm in Canada, and have dealt with more dealerships than I care to mention. The term 'Evo 2 service' is not standard. Find a competent independent shop (as mentioned by others), and have them do the service using Mitsu OEM parts/fluids.
