TC-SST and options help

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if someone could help me and give me some advice on a matter. I'm pretty sure my current SST tranny my 09 RA is about to go, first gear slipping on launch, R flashes more than 3 -4 seconds sometimes and the car is shifting really weird. I also now have the notorious clutch clattering now in idle. It has seen 87085km. If I can have it changed via warranty that would be perfect, but what I'm seeking advice about revolves the new tranny. Is it viable to sell the new TC third party and them proceed to buy and install a 6 speed manual? I can possibly profit more off of the TC or would they installer a newer gen TC? Is there anyone here who has done this?

Ultimately I'm more interested in a manual long term because I prefer it, but I also dot want to run into issues in another $14000 transmission.

I have the same slippage/jerking issue from launch, although R doesn't flash for me. My '09 RA has 49000km, so maybe that's what is to come

One GTA dealer has told me there is a flash that might help with this issue, but apparently they have to wait for the unit to make it's rounds to other dealers before it gets to them. I asked how I can make a formal request for this thing, but they haven't gotten back to me as of yet.

This is probably of little consolation, but replacement SST transmissions can be found from US dealers for about $9000. However, your transmission should still be covered under the 5 year powertrain warranty.

Yup,I have, twice. The tranny and cooler was drained recently to verify the fluid level. Still no dice

I have had 4 dealers look at it, and most have said they can't do a thing until the unit throws a code or stops working completely.

I have no heard of anyone changing their SST trans to a manual.
When my transmission went, it started slipping. It grind on start up twice before, and then I lost the odd set gears, and after that lost the even set gears. It was very intermittent.

I took a while to take it to the dealer, but eventually did and transmission was replaced.
The reverse blinking happened once on the new transmission, but everything is still good.

Old transmission lasted 30k miles with one fluid/filter change at 25k. Which I performed because I thought it would clear the symptoms.

New Transmission has 30k now and I will be changing fluid real soon.

I explred this (another thread) and concensus was 'replace the tranny' and do not try to go manual (which i would prefer too! )

I have seen them cheaper on EBay...

Depending on whats wrong with it there are third partys repairing and replacing parts of the trans.

Has anybody done a Manual swap out of an Evo X into the Ralliart? Wander what it would all contain to do on.

You should have done it sooner, like 5k for the first one (break in is crucial).

I think 5K might be a little premature. I did my TC-SST fluid and filter change recently at 16K, and the mechanic was like: "I'm not sure that you really needed to do this so soon, the fluid and filter still look good". So, while I agree that 30k might be waiting a bit too long, 5k might actually be a little too soon. It's kind of like the whole Goldilocks and the Three Bears method of deciding when it's the right time to do the first fluid and filter change.....

I'm thinking I may simply need a fluid and filter change.

Would a ECU reflash fix this issue as well? Is the dealer able to reflash a newer ROM and avoid my warranty being voided? What are my options?

You need to get the the dealer to identify the same issues that your having. Try change the fluid and filter as alot of people have had pretty good success. Failing that if your still under warranty push the dealer to replace the transmission, apparently from what I read the tc-sst information is now being pushed out to mitsu service centers for replacement clutches due to the evo x 08 models starting to show signs of problematic/worn clutches. Hopefully they can identify the issue and fix it without replacing the transmission as it would help the community to start to get a idea on what's failing where and what Mitsubishi are doing to fix it(obviously aftermarket specialists can offer a transmission clutch and seal rebuild but we should be entitled to understand why it fails not just throw in a warranty replacement).

I was worried about the transmission going out until I changed the fluid and filter at 63000km with FFL2 and Dodson filter.

I've put another 1000k on the car since then and I swapped my horn relay with my FPR. Most of the symptoms were gone right away but they started to arise again. I popped the negative off the battery and reset the ECU, the car was working great again until THIS, see below.

I'm thinking that I may simply have a fuel flow problem with the horn relay now. I jumped ahead and purchased the newest MR122409 and the MR400709 relays. What do you guys think?

I'm having an issue with the trans staying in a certain gear and not changing until it can finally pump the right amount of fuel to change gears at 7k RPM, but it needs more power to do it. Regardless of Normal/Sport, the car is no different as well. When I'm in manual mode and I'm coasting at 3500RPM, when I attempt to boost, the car will lost power at about 5000 RPM. I can successfully shift and boost at to higher that 5000rpm when I am not going WOT..
