Looking at a 2010 used Ralliart, good idea?
Looking at a 2010 used Ralliart, good idea?
I found this car a couple weeks ago. The dealership listed it at 23,000 or so starting and its been lister for almost 3 months. About 2 weeks ago when I was planning in getting it for 20,000 someone put a down payment on it, bit just a few days ago they emailed me saying that it hadn't sold and it was now priced at 18,999 and going to an auction thins weekend if I don't want it. Any thoughts? I'm worried about buying one of these and getting destroyed with maintenance after I buy it. The carfax only tells me the date it was bought and sold, no records in between.

Looks to be all stock, missing an oil cap.
Does the dealer have records of oil changes etc? Perhaps try and work extended warranty into the deal. If I was to purchase a used RA I would for sure get an extended warranty for peace of mind.

I'm going to ask them today about service records and warranty when I call them, I'm not sure how it will work though because I'm out of state. Kind of defeats the purpose if I have to make a 5 hour drive for service do I'll have to ask them what we can work out
I purchased mine used also and here in Canada Extended Warranty is retarded expensive maybe its the same in the states but i opted out of the extended warranty cause of price to add only one more year and 20,000 extra km just not worth 3000 bucks in my opinion.
Sorry cannot help you.
My friend whom is a red seal mechanic for mitsu canada said that all 2009 and part of 2010's built up to a certain date were made with parts that had not been thoroughly tested and Getrag shouldn't have put them on the market. He has seen first hand 6 or 7 local RA/EVO's getting new trannys and he was required to ship them to Getrag in Ontario for testing. Getrag was the one who ripped the tranny apart and was figuring out what was causing the failures and correct it part way through 2010.
so my advice is to buy a late model 2010 or newer.

Yes, that date code be it. Its not to say that all 09s and early 10s are doomed though. Not all those transmissions were built with the same parts so some unlucky guys will have issues but if there's any silver lining atleast they're failing during the warranty period.
The dealer just emailed me back about my questions about how the car had been treated previously. According to them a couple had bought the car new, did all of the oil changes on time and traded it in after 2 years because they needed more space and got the new Outlander.
It has 27,000 miles on it, when do those transmission problems usually pop up?
The dealership also said it has the remainder of the original warranty on it and for 10 extra per month I could get more. Either are good at any Mitsubishi dealership
