Thumbs down Question for all you legal guys

Okay, so here's the story. I bought used from a Ford dealership. So, these past few weeks I've been having crazy problems with the car, and it's only at 18.5k miles. I had my cousin take it for a drive, and take a look at it, and we discovered there was an aftermarket boost controller on the car set at around 25ish PSI, which is obviously an absurd amount of boost, way too much for the car to handle, and now my engine is completely screwed and I am in need of a new one. When we bought the car however, the dealership had never told us about these aftermarket parts, or anything of that matter. Also, I had it inspected by Mitsubishi about a week after it, and they did not even notice that there was a boost controller in the engine bay at all, so it is not noted. I do remember there being pictures of the engine bay on the dealer's website, however, if I could find them, could I have a case? Also, I live in Wisconsin, and the car was bought in Illinois.

Thanks so much,
Luke

I push 23.5 psi on the stock turbo. 25 isn't crazy too much unless it's not tuned for that much boost.

If you can prove that it had the aftermarket controller installed upon purchase and the engine is destroyed then Ford should foot the bill. However, have a fun time proving that you didn't install it.

Yeah, but my car was 100% stock so it took a toll on the engine. Going out of first I almost hit 30:/ Got oil in the coolant and coolant in my oil, and its not looking good. There was pictures online of the car that I looked at before I went down and bought it, I just have to see if I can find them.

Not too sure about the regulations and such in the states, but here in Ozland, the dealership should be held responsible.
It may just be that we are a little bit luckier with rules, but if you purchase an item from a registered business and it fails soon after (even if it is outside the warranty period for that item), the business can be held partly responsible for supplying a faulty item (this is based upon "expected lifespans" of the items.)
How long ago did you purchase it?

All that aside, you may be able to hold Mitsubishi responsible if you had paid them for a "Full inspection" and yet they miss that the car is no longer stock (we all know Mitsu HATE cars that aren't stock :/ )

If you bought the car used the dealership assumes no responsibility. The only thing you MIGHT be able to get is if they sold you the car under the impression it had the remainder of the factory warranty. If they claimed that while the car had modifications that voided said factory warranty then they didnt do their job in order to assure their claim was accurate.

A case of what? What legal wrong do you think they committed? Start with figuring out your answer to that and then move forward. You really should be contacting a lawyer if you have a legal question, not some anonymous folks on a car forum.

I was just asking if you guys even knew if there could be a case made out of this maybe from past experience. Going to get rid of the car today, only had it for 7 months:/ not even 20,000 miles yet. Had fun, on to bigger and better.

Good idea. That situation doesn't sound like a fun one to be in. Make sure to buy new or have it inspected by a third party so you avoid this situation again!
