Battery Too Weak/Small
Battery Too Weak/Small
Hey guys, i have been having a problem with my car turning over slowly lately in the colder weather (-42 C today). Now obviously it is because of the tempurature, but I was looking into batteries, and noticed that everywhere i looked it listed a 700 CCA battery for all models INCLUDING the Ralliart, except for the EVO, which is listed as requiring a 950 CCA battery. I looked at my battery and it is 700 CCA. Should our cars be using a larger cold cranking amp battery? It has the same engine as the EVO X (aside from turbo and such), so why would they put a lesser battery in it? Either way, i have a 950 CCA battery to put in after work, and i will report if i notice a difference. In the meantime, i was wondering if someone with better knowledge could chime in, and maybe clear up as to why they put a smaller battery in the Ralliart. Thanks!
-40C/F is ridiculously cold.
Both engines are very similar so I can't see why the Evo would require more than the RA. Do you have the stock battery? You may have to get a cold weather specific battery.

Likely because the Evo's battery is in the trunk and 1. The Panasonic battery that fits the application is rated at 950cca (I only looked briefly, but did not see a 700 in the same group classification made by Panasonic) 2. there is a fair amount of loss through the wiring and such, which facilitates the use of a higher-output battery
