Cold starts with e85 and a light weight battery
I'm looking into getting a light weight battery for my track car. The batteries with cca's close to my heavy OEM battery don't offer a lot of weight savings.
The lowest it gets around here is mid 20's, so I assume once the season starts I wouldn't be dealing with temps any worse than that hopefully. On these colder nights I have to crank 10-15 times to get the car going.
That said, are any of you guys out there getting away with a battery that has lower cca's than stock while running e85?
edit - This is for an STi, so tuning suggestions won't be of much help.

Omg 220 cca is in my eyes is retarded, I rather get a optima with 1000, take the 10 pounds and happy with less stress on my starter/everything. Plus I won't have to get my *** in the cold and jump her lol

I have the mini battery, hawker genesis. Used the same brand three straight years in a row up in Tahoe where some mornings it's in the teens or single digitis and the car is covered with snow.
Car starts right up, no problem.
Make sure your cold start tables are tuned correctly for E85. If you have to crank the car 10+ times when it's cold, it's the tune, not the battery.

You need your Cold Start Enrichment tables adjusted (Im on Tephra 5.1) I had mine changed & it fires usually on the 1st or second crank

I've taken some general physics courses, but am pretty clueless when it comes to different battery technologies. How do you set up a battery to whatever cca's you want?
