AWC Flashing but no Fault Codes

Hey All,

So i've noticed recently that my AWC indicator on my display is flashing when i am on the highway...

When it flashes i cannot change modes, but it then becomes solid after a little while and i can change it.

i've read past threads about this and most people get the ACD Fault code... or a SERVICE REQUIRED error...

at the moment i have winters on so i get a service required error due to the tire sensors not being there, but i turn it off when i turn on the car and it doesn;t come back unless it gives me the "roads might be frozen error"

i really hope it's not the pump and i am banking on the fact that it's not the pump due to no codes or errors popping up.

my car is over 100K km's so warranty is out of the question...

could it be anything else? just that it might be cold outside? never noticed it in other winter seasons since we bought the car!

i am praying it's not the pump...

did you pull codes from the acd ecu? or pcm? afaik the acd won't pass codes to the pcm.

no i haven't... i've been reading about the ACD error light.. where is this indicator?

i have no other unusual indicators except the TARMAC/GRAVEL/SNOW blinking.. and today it blinked when i first started the car but stopped and never blinked again.

on the EVO IX i see that when the three lights blink and ERROR indicator shows up..

does the 2009+ have an ACD indicator?

Did you get the cold weather flash update for the pump? My pump is on its way out. First I got the service 4wd light but then, after the dealership did the cold weather reflash, I have the flashing tarmac and unable to change. The dealership checked again and this time said the pump is on its last legs, it is only working part time and that is when the light stops flashing. The light will flash whenever there is a fault with the system for longer than 2 seconds I believe. If it does not detect a fault for 2 seconds then the light stops flashing and you can switch modes. See if you can get the codes read (hopefully at no charge the last time the buggers charged me 80) If you get a C161 it is probably not good news.

Thanks for the info! that helps a lot!!

dammit!!!!!!! i am never buying a mitsubishi again! their service is horrible and if it is the pump this will be the 2nd MAJOR thing that went wrong in the last year!

the car is less then 5 years old and my exhaust manifold CRACKED and now this!! Both not covered under the powertrain!

thats like $5000 in a year! ridiculous!

i am guessing the part is the expensive thing not the labour... so even if i bring it to someone else it'll still cost me an arm and a leg!

friggin heck! =FAIL

Mine is dying, I get the light everytime it gets warmer out. I had my code checked and it was c161. As far as repair I'm out if warranty so I'm not replacing it. I read before that you drive without it fine, just lose a bit of handling and have an annoying light

Why wouldn't they cover the exhaust manifold cracking? That seems like it should be a no-brainer. Also, I'm not sure if this helps, but the company in the following link does ACD pump rebuilding:

really? are you sure?
i'd rather just get it fixed and know it's woring properly.. i read that it can affect your motor over time?

thanks a lot for the link.. i am in Toronto Canada.

i was over the full warranty and they said it wasn't covered under the powertrain.. i even called head office and they couldnt do anything cause they said it's up to the dealership... it sucked!!!

i was lucky that someone on this forum offered me to send their Exhaust manifold that was used under 4K...

but it's still a **** off to spend so much on a fairly newer car

Dealer was going to replace my ACD pump since I was getting the warning, and just did another reflash on it instead (I already had the original cold weather flash done)

Now, I get the blinky Tarmac/Gravel/Snow every now and then. Pump is still dying, I think they're trying to wait out my warranty

Based on the Evo X boards, there's people who have driven tens of thousands of miles without a working ACD pump without issue.

I don't think it would harm anything as "all" it does it change the percentage of torque I believe from front to back. Without it I think you are just stuck at tarmac BUT I don't know for sure. The service guy just started working at the dealership 4 days ago so I had to explain the awd system, tarmac switch, acd pump connection and how its not powertrain thing to him. Very frustrating.

yeah... no

if anyone is in my area and would be willing to let me hook my computer up to their car. acd pump functioning or not, I'd like to capture sample data.

It was a very simplified answer that's why I quoted the "all". While the performance of the car/system is reduced I have not read anywhere that it does physical harm to the equipment to not have that functioning. I may have missed that and if I have I am sorry for any misleading information I put out there.
