Considering a Ralliart from an Evo IX MR
Considering a Ralliart from an Evo IX MR
I'm either crazy or getting old. I've had my Evo IX since Jan 09, and I'm starting to dred shifting. When I'm enjoying the drive, it's really fun running through the gears, but when I'm cruising around town, it feels a little tedious shifting. Plus, I'm coming to the realization that maybe I don't need the track capabilities of an Evo since I've never taken it on the track since I've had it.
So, out of curiosity, has anyone else made the move from an Evo 8/9 to a Ralliart? If so, what was your reasoning and do you have any regrets?
Thanks for commenting,
Paul

I'm not sure where you're going with your question, but it has just under 120k with the 120k service complete (timing & balancer belts, timing belt pulleys, water pump, accessory belt, plugs, wires, all the drivetrain fluids), new brakes, SS brake lines, and a new clutch (factory one lasted over 116k).
My commute to work is about 40 miles each way with more than half that on the highway.

I love my RA around town, still great in the mountains. Relatively inexpensive mods and suspension give me stock gsr power, earlier torque and evo like handling minus the braking of course. I've never driven an evo, but Robi is impressed...
It looks like you own a civic. That would make a better commute car because of the gas savings. My Ra is a daily driver and I commute in it but not in auto mode. In stop and go traffic the SST is real jerky and it's not good to drive it in that mode as its harder on the clutches. Most throw it in manual mode riding 2nd gear.
I'm kind of in the same boat. I thought I'd do all these mods and take it to the track when I got it, but it ended up being a daily because modding and tracking is just too expensive. I'd just never buy from mitsubishi again after multiple experiences with what I'd call the worst customer service ever.
Hahaha...I forgot I had that listed. I do have a Civic but it hasn't moved under its own power in many years. I had hopes and aspirations for a b-series swap, but life has slowed that drastically. I just haven't found the motivation to sell it...yet.

I've got a IX and my wife has a ralliart and I can tell you its really nice not shifting when you commute around. That being said, I'd miss driving my IX without a doubt! If you're serious about getting rid of your car why not go to a X mr? I plan on picking one up next year just for a dd.
rongdoer-
You stated my case nearly perfectly. Fortunately, I've never had to go to the dealer and never gave them a chance to disappoint.
304MR-
It has crossed my mind and I know the price difference is worth every penny; however, if I got an Evo X, I'd be racking up "boring" miles again in a purpose built machine. It'd be an aweful lot of money spent with minimal reward without getting to the track frequently.
I guess that's the complexity in saying "goodbye" to the Evo IX - the opportunity cost (or lost opportunity) to keep something great with minimal opportunities to unleash its potential.
So I guess I'm just crazy to consider it since no one has made the jump to a more daily driven focused - or at least they haven't spoken up if they have.
Thanks again,
Paul

go ahead and get an RA its a great car. but if u dont want to mod it heavily at least get the boost pill, it makes the car come alive over the dumpy stock tune....plus the stock SST tune is crappy i hate the way Mitsubishi has it setup from the factory
It's really not that hard of a choice. If you want better fuel economy and long term reliability, get the Civic Si. Everything else is in favor of the Ralliart. Whatever you do, don't get a Corolla.
