help. is the rallyart what I need?
hi all. I am in the market to get a nice awd car. just moved to sudbury ont so lots of snow 6 montha out of the year.
now I went to the mitsubishi dealership the other day to test drive the new 2013 lancer gt awc.
I was very impressed with this car. handling felt tigjt and balanced. my only gripe is not enough power. it had the new vct transmission. I was able to slap the fake gears in the corners for more power. the salesman at the end said if you want more power Your have to go to the rallyart or evo. well both brand new are outta my price range. but...
I test drove a 2009 rallyart today. this was the extra power I wanted. handling felt very close to the 2013 gt. if I was to get the 2013 gt what kind of mods can be done witbout voiding the warranty to get the rallyart power? the 2009 rallyart has 69000 kms and warranty runs out next year. the gt has 10 year warranty. not that I plan on keeping the gt for ten years, but only a one year left on the rallyart kinda scares me. I Dont wanna get the used rallyart and after warranty is up I might have some major issues. or I could get new gt and mod it a bit and have the warranty till I am blue in ths face.
this is my first car of this kind. I have been researching like crazy for the best sporty awd for snow. and between the lancer and wrx it was a toss up. I almost grabbed a 2010 awd audi A3 2.0 turbo. that was also very nice.
my overall fear is do I need the rallysport, or should i just grab a newer gt awd and start from scratch on a solid car with a good warranty? then I can slowly add mods to it as I go. or I grab the rallyart and pray that the two owners before me did not beat ths crap out of it. I really won't be able to afford some pricey repairs off the bat if something goes wrong right away if the rallyart breaks down. i will be using this as my daily driver. so how far can you mod a stock 2013 gt awc without voiding your warranty. l just want about 40-50 extra ponies to help out.
please help guys. I am 38 years young. help steer me in the right direction. having the knowledge that you have what would you do?
thanks all for any and all help.

Get the ralliart spelt with an "I" no a "y"
You will never be able to mod the GT to the power of the Ralliart without voiding the warranty. I would just but the extended warranty for the ralliart and have fun with the power.

Agree with the post above. Make sure if you get the 09 ralliart you test drove, get the extended warranty no matter what. You can actually bargain it. It's the Financial Manager that sells this extended warranty and they get a ton of comission on this. Almost 1/2 of the cost of the Extended warranty.
Good luck!

Good luck!
okay here is the deal. the used ralliart I drove today is from a private dealer. its warranty runs out next year. he asked if he could buy extended warranty, they told him he could but it had to be purchased privately or something. I am doing my best to reseaech this stuff as much as I can.
I really enjoyed the added power from ths turbo in the ralliart. but because I am not a mechanic at all I am very unsure about maintenance costs I will have to pay for some added power if something breaks. I am leaning heavy towards the audi A3 as it is a 2010 with 72000, and ths dealership will through in a added two year /40000 km warranty. plus I could buy more warranty.
I really wish the used ralliart was from a dealership. would be easier to negotiate that extended warranty.
I wanna say thanks for the quick replies and the warm welcome. I have always wanted to be 'in' the tuner car market but having kids has stopped me until now. so I wanna make sure I make the right decision off the mark. I have a good chance to buy a sweet fast ralliart for a good price. he wants 18,5000 for it. the new gt is 27000. this is gonna be a pricey hobby, I tell already. than again.

Bear in mind that Audi's cost more to service and repair than RA's (wife has a 2wd A4 and I have the RA).
The A3 & RA are different cars with different strengths do drive both and wrote down what the pro's and cons are for you for each. At the end of the day both are AWD turbo 2ltr
