SST slipping

I'm sure this may have been covered but, how do you check if the SST is slipping, all my gears shift strong and good, I down shift and its good but if the issue accures. How would I check or test it

Not a sure fire way, but gears are possibly more likely to slip in normal mode.

It slips even from the factory. Gears slip way less in sport mode. Also it helps if the car is warmed up and you shift at 3000 or 3600 rpm. That is always smooth for me. Anything under or over those seems to slip in my car. Kind of hard to explain what slip is in to words. It is kind of one of those thing's you will just know when it happens. Hope this helps

^^ This.

Although if it slips to the point that you cannot pull of your driveway, that is a problem.

Keep in manual mode. Get to hwy speeds. Put it 5th gear and ~2.5K rpm. Floor it. Do the revs climb waaay faster than the speed increases? It is slipping.

So if there is less slip in sport mode, is it safer to drive that way on a regular basis, or does it wear harder on other parts due to the abruptness of shifting? I usually leave it in normal, thinking I will keep everything from wearing out as fast...

Well that depends on if you have mods and a tune done. I had mine tuned in sport mode only which means I drive with it that way all the time. No mode really wears them out faster than another honestly from what I have seen and been told by the tuners I have been to.

I will say though I have been told by a few sst builders that launching is a no no for a car unless you plan on rebuilding it every year or two. More so for the SST. Launching causes the clutches to grab very hard and some slip. You can actually watch a few ralliarts on you tube launching and blowing the trans out on the track. I do not personally know anyone who has done this but just heard stories. On that same note however I have also seen people bash and treat there ralliart or MR like dirt and the thing keeps kicking. Just a luck of the draw I suppose. Driving hard from a role and or aggressive driving will wear that out a little sooner but not much more than regular driving. The sst can tolerate far more than people think or say it can.

Going back to your question though I believe you will be just fine in any mode. For me my sport mode has just always performed the best even before my tune.

New owner here but I think mine might be slipping just a bit as well when I'm hard into it? PO told me it needs a fluid change and it will fix it right up again though? That anywhere near correct? Also this morning (second day of owing it) it was cold and on a bit of high idle still but when I shifted into R it had a clunk is that normal or should I be checking something?
Thanx guys and gals!

That sounds like what mine was doing exactly. I bet you need to replace your SST transmission fluid. How many miles has it been since you replaced SST fluid?
