Plastic rattling behind rear headrests
Plastic rattling behind rear headrests
The plastic cover over the back interior of the car is rattling a fair bit when I drive. Any suggestions for keeping it in place. I was thinking of either silicon beads or maybe some foam stuck through the child-seat anchor covers.
I took some rubber hose, like 3/8" fuel hose, and jammed four one (1) inch pieces between the glass and the plastic deck cover and one jammed between either pillar. It's worked great and you cant even notice them. There are so many damn rattles in this car though...
EDIT: When I take my door panels off this spring to install new speakers, I'm going to use felt material along the edges of the panels where they make contact with the door when I re-install them to keep them from rattling as well.

I tried a few different "easy" solutions for this, but all of them were just temporary. Things got way worse when I installed a catback. In the end I just took the whole thing apart (you can find some YouTube videos on how to do that for Lancers) and cut out a custom cushion out of a foam camping mat. That has worked perfectly ever since.
The reason this thing rattles is because Mitsubishi has no idea how to make a proper interior - they barely install any padding to prevent the crappy plastic piece from hitting the metal underneath.

Edit: That took care of the rattling for me. And since the car is tinted, and the cover is black and the rubber hose is black, you have to be looking for them to notice them. Meh.

Thanks. Gonna do something similar over the next few days.
I ended up taking off the pillars and putting Dynamat down. I also took the big plastic piece off and covered that entire section with Dynamat. I did this when I first bought the car and it completely eliminated the problem. I also have two 10's in the trunk and do not have rattle issues.
