Hi guys I was just curious I still have the stock turbo in my RA and I was wondering like with most other cars why when you accelerate the turbo spool is so loud? Is it the size of the turbo or something else? Thanks

 

Depending on how loud it is, could be a leak somewhere. But, lately, mine has been really loud, and I could not find a leak.

 

It's a small turbo in our cars so you barely hear it

 

I can hear mine spool, when I crack the throttle in certain ways...Compared to an Evo its sounds like a mouse though(not that the 2 evos ive ridden in really were that loud on spool). If you can definitely here it all the time than as mentioned before perhaps you have an exhaust leak.

 

It's all in the shield and noise-attenuation of the entire system design (from intake to exhaust) . Not the turbo itself. Stock cars are designed to be as quiet as possible.

 

Mine sounds like a police siren during spool up. I wasn't able to get the heat shield bolts off to check the manifold.

 

open element filter and you will hear it.

 

That loud? I would suspect a boost leak.
