235 on 7.5" wheel

Can you run a 235 tire on a 7.5" wheel or is it overkill? I know most tire manufacturers recommend to run a 225 on a 7.5" wheel. Stupid question I know just curious. Don't want to gay up my car.

Can and should are two different questions. Yes, you can. Should you? Probably not.

That's what I thought. From everything I read the max I should run on a 7.5" wheel is a 225. I should have gotten the 8" wheels. Maybe I can sucker my better half into running the 7.5" on her Ralliart since she considers that the family car and I can get 8" for mine. Although 225's on my wheels with a better compound tire should suffice. I thought 235's would be pushing it and I don't want to negate performance for looks.

They do come stock with 7" wheels. The stock wheels are what I'm running for my winter setup and I got a set of 18X7.5 for summer.

It comes back to what Mettal1ca said, "Can and Should". You can run a 225 with side walls bulging on a 7" wheel but I wouldn't.

Yes a 235 will fit on a 7.5" wheel, its probably not the best setup though. I would go max 225 and I'd even consider staying with a 215. The difference in grip between a 225 and a 215 isn't going to be very noticeable as long as you buy a quality tire. The best tire and wheel setup I've personally felt is a 225 tire (RE01R) on an 8" wheel. It was flat, it turned in great, it had plenty of grip and it communicated nicely. After that I ran a 245 on the same wheel and while the ultimate grip level was higher, the steering felt more vague.

Thanks Amby. I have the stock 215 Yoko's on my 7.5" wheels now and they seem to be stretched on the wheels that's why I was thinking a 225 or possibly a 235 but I thought a 235 would be too much.

I have 215 stock Dunlops on my 7.5" and they seem to fit fine, not stretched at all.
