Tein Coilovers for RA

Im looking to buy coils and im interested in the tein ones. Im trying to find a pic of a RA with them on and how they look but when i searched a lot of results came up with tein springs. If anyone can find some pics that would be great.

while the cars look similar, they are in fact different cars with the Tein Basic suspension on it vs. Tein S.Tech , http://www.tein.com/tech_info/e32.html

The Tein basics are highly recommend yet dont get alot of love or attention. They are likely the highest quality Twin Tube designed coilover out there. While you will hear people on here and other forums complain about them or failures. In most cases its because the person bought this kit and used it for all the wrong reasons. This is a coilover meant as a daily driver and height control. If you are looking for performance I would look else where for something in a MONO TUBE design. If your on a budget, for about 900 dollars the Tein basics will do the job and its something that you can install yourself. The reason why I love this coilover is because you only have height adjustability. What I mean is, alot of guys buy coilovers that have multiple points of adjustability and they muck around and have the coilover not properly configured or dialed in right for what they want to use it for. The Basics dont have dampening force adjustment, they dont have bracket (strut body) adjustment for height. Basically its all about the spring. There is very little to go wrong.

The Good
*Easy to use,
*Easy to install,
*Easy to adjust
*Gets the job done for height adjustment and goes pretty low
*Good price for a premium brand

The Bad
*Twin tube technology is inferior to Inverted MONOtube design

The Ugly
*Has a glass jaw when it comes to hardcore driving durability. Not recommend for the track or offer road
*If you live in a crappy part of town and the roads are brutal, you may decrease the life of the strut. As with your OE suspension.

Verdict....

Good buy that wont brake the bank. At the end of the day, no one is going to see your suspension. But they will see your ride height. The capabilities of the kit will be superior than any Spring option out there. Bottom like our OEM struts are pretty bad and unable to handle Springs

Thanks for the response! I do plan on using it for daily driving but i do plan on taking it to the track sometimes and performance is key for me since I want to make my car fast.

Would megan or bc be a better choice? Also what do you think about buying used coils?

Sad truth is, BC and Megan's would be a viable option. The Aftermarket has turned its back on the Ralliart / Lancer platform so not many manufacturers make coilovers for our cars. Megan and BC are more or less the usual suspects. Very wide range of coilovers. Of the two brands I would go with the RAM series BC coilover. Monotube technology has advanced to offer an inverted shock setup which allows for multiple benefits in strut life and performance in sustained situations.

Doing a random google search, it appears you can source RAM series coilovers for about 1225. http://www.sparktecmotorsports.com/rm-b-19.html

BC coilovers are very solid pieces if you're looking to get performance out of your Purchase. We have been very impressed with the performance we have seen from BC racing. Highly recommended.

i have tein flex, and you can see my pics in the sportback thread with black wheels.

the Flex's are comparable to Megans for adjustability. if you're looking for hardcore performance, i suggest the BC coilovers with the inverted monotube shock.

i find mine great for daily driving. i didn't want to bother with buying new top mounts or re-using the original ones, so i chose the Flex over the Basic. i got an amazing price on them locally too so i didn't even bother waiting to get BC's.

Compared to Megans, BCR coilovers have bigger internals, beefier shock bodies, locking lower rings (so the height adjustment rings don't work loose), and a better damping curve. They end up being a lot more compliant over rough surfaces. And they tend to last a little longer.

Overall the BCR coilovers are just a nicer piece, for just a bit more money.

Bigger internals means more surface area for the shim stacks and valves, which leads to a smoother ride and better tuning of damping. The larger shock bodies means more room for the internals and a stiffer cartirdge, which means it will hold up to much more abuse. The BCR coilovers also come with a coarser thread, so you can adjust ride height easier
and quickly.

Also FYI - Pillowball bearings will provide a more direct and solid feeling in your suspension but they will also make the ride a bit more harsh and transfer more noise and vibration. So BCR provides the option of pillowball OR rubber mounts.

Feel free to PM us with any inquiries. I have personally run BCR's on 3 of my vehicles
and the CMS STi runs a BCR ER series.

I like the option for rubber mounts over pillowball, but i've been through quite a few top mounts in my day and the rubber mount is the first thing to go before ball joints then lca bushings. I dont find pillowball that harsh at all.

That was more for reference as far as part origins are concerned.

What about HSD coilovers? Im giving them a call to see what hight and drop is for it. Could not find it in their website. So BC coilovers or HSD? Price is not the issue. I want perfomance and i will be doing autox every now and then. I'm also going with whiteline for a lot of the other stuff like swaybar, camber correction and more. Thoughts?
