NT05's are garbage

ok, that's slightly exaggerated, but they're pretty damn mediocre/subpar for what they claim to be

price is alright, but imo you either go value-minded V12's or performance-minded RS3's/StarSpecs

I wouldn't mind them if I bought them used for super cheap, but if I were buying new, I would just buy better new tires.

Actually, in an AWD car, they are amazing tires. The only downfall of them is that you dont get near as many miles out of them as you would another set at the same price.

 

amazing in what way?

1. their cold grip is awful
2. they take forever to build up to temperature
3. they lose temperature too fast
4. if you get them all up to optimal temps, they're a bit greasy
5. tread-life is so-so
6. wet grip is so-so

1, 5, and 6 make them a mediocre DD tire
2, 3, and 4 make them a mediocre auto-x/performance tire

I tried convincing myself they were a good buy, but they weren't. If you want a long-lasting DD tire, V12's. High-performance (non-R-compound) - RS3 or Star Specs.

 

NOPE. I tried to get them shipped but apparently they can't ship Nitto's to Canada because Kaltire has an exclusive contract or something making them allowable to charge $400 more....

It was for the best, because I decided to go with RS3s for less than $100 more, and I found that they had better reviews. The only problem is that you have to wait 6 to 8 weeks since they are on backorder at this price all in (including to Canada!)

Their cold grip is great because of the soft compound, and they are good street tires, i never once heard them squeal on the sharpest of turns, but again they last maybe 10-15,000 miles which DOES make them mediocre for the PRICE.

 

There are ways around it, case in point, I have NT01s for my race car.

Look at Tirerack, they're prices are usually the same or cheaper than any of the Canadian suppliers. What part of Canada are you in? If you're local, I know someone who may be able to get you Nittos.

have you done any actual performance driving with them? they squeel like ****ing crazy trying to find any kind of grip unless they are (finally) up to temp. even with a rear-sway bar, their heat-cycling was awful to deal with

For the price/performance comparison, I have to agree with Exyia on this one. If the car is a DD first and then an occasional weekend warrior, look further into the Hankook V12. Wet handling is FAR superior to the NT05 and they feel a bit more predictable, though slightly less precise when in optimal range, under harsh conditions (again, a result of the NT05 temperature issues)
