Do I need to replace the whole valve stem piece?

So I was putting air in my tire the other night and the threaded part that holds the cap cracked in half. The valve stem is fine and still holds air but I have to hold the threaded part together to get more in and is a very big pain. Do I need to replace the whole piece or can I just replace the threaded part? It looks like that its held on by a nut and you can from the diagrams to order a new one.

Any insight on this would be very helpful.

Thanks!

I'm sure you can replaced just that part if they sell the pieces individually.

I would just go to a tire shop and have them replace it for like 10 or 15 bucks. Its not worth having a flat tire in the middle of winter!

That should be a serviceable item through and should come in a kit with a new core , cap, and o-ring seal

I had called a dealer and was told that I would have have to get the TMPS and all. I'm just going to buy the pieces online since its about $20 for everthing excluding the TMPS part with shipping. I mean I just need a new thread piece to hold on the cap. Do I really need a new moniter when it still works? Haha so dumb.

That parts department employee was either lazy or just plain dumb. The damn computer shows the option of a repair kit in the parts program.

New core cap and o ring seal won;t fix it. You can't just loosen the nut and put another threaded piece on. sry.

Replace with an ebay unit

I think you're referring to the replacement parts kit we normally use when swapping out wheels/tires and sensors. That is more of a "resealing" kit and is separate from the "rebuild" kit that Mitsu actually offers (at least they did when I worked there).

It is not very well-known, however and this is why most people just buy sensors. Why would the dealership want to make less money, right? They're certainly not going to offer you less than what you ask for...

I wish I could get ahold of that part number again

^ah - okay! That is good news!

But would you have to remove the TPMS from the wheel to repair it?
I think so...

Here is what I'm going to try out.

The #2 part. It looks like it all comes apart.. Think that will work?

Yes, that's correct, though you can sneak it through without dismounting the tire completely. Just break the outer bead and press it in while maneuvering the sensor out/in.

In theory, that looks like it may contain the parts you need, but I'm not certain. That's definitely not the pic I am familiar with from the Mitsu C.A.P.S. program.
