So, I'm sorry to ressurect a old thread but this thread seems to be basically what I was searching for and I always say it's better to bring back a dead thread over and over rather than create a million like threads. Also sorry for all the questions and comments, but I have a lot.

I was debating between the HKS and the Ralliart... I went for the ralliart just because I'm a Ralliart JDM fan boy. Don't regret it at all. Once I get about 3-5k miles on this car I'm going to add a Perrin Inlet Hose.

If you don't want to spend the extra money go with the HKS. They are great filters. You might have to get a tune for it though. The Ralliart's claim to fame is you don't NEED a tune with it.
Forgive my newbness as I am new to the Mitsubishi world as far as anything outside the very basics. Is there another company out there call Ralliart? Or is this Ralliart drop in filter you speak of the stock filter on our Lancer Ralliarts?? I feel such like a newb as I'm guess these wonderful cars have a company called Ralliart that is pretty much related to our cars as Nismo is to Nissan or HFP or Mugen is to Honda.

If I remember correctly, the HKS flows the most air, but filters the worst. I believe that the K&N doesn't flow as much as the others, but filters better. Works is somewhere in the middle.

The one advantage the K&N has over the others (and this is why I prefer them) is that they are reusable. All you need is a cleaning kit, and the filter should outlast the life of the car.

Technically no servicing required for lifetime of the filter, highest dust load capacity and supposedly awesome filtering capability (originally designed for off-road racers)....and metal frame w/ foam or rubber seal (for the Evo X/Ralliart one) so definitely quality construction.

It's 3-layer foam like the HKS but impregnated with oil to trap more dirt. Yes oil can hurt your MAF but I've put a combined 100000kms between my Audi and my old GTI with ITG filters with no issues with the MAF and an oiled filter.

You can get them from japanparts as well.

Gruppe-s has the HKS

Works has the Works filter...

Personally I recommend the Ralliart (if you want a pure factory look and good gains and long reusability), or the HKS if you want good gains and an aftermarket look). They are all very similar. The FQ-400 has the HKS drop-in.
lol this actually I think answered my question of why are some filters oiled. Guess it help traps more dirt.

So basically from all that I have read it seem my choices for a good drop in are HKS, Cosworth, Works or Ralliart. I think I will elect a dry filter because why take the chance (rumor or not) on a oiled filter causing problems. Are these all dry? Does the lack of a seal on the HKS hurt the engine? I can't seem to get over that there is not seal.

I think I may be leaning towards the last two I listed. Does anyone know where the thread is that has multiple reviews of drop in filters, What do you guys think. Also I am looking for a filter i can just blow out and have to do all the oil stuff.

Stay away from HKS as previously mentioned as its filtering capability is reviewed to be pretty terrible. I wanted a dry filter as well however I went with K&N. The oil isn't going to kill the MAF unless you over oil it when cleaning. I wanted Cosworth originally cause of the price and the reviews but trying to get a hold of one was difficult cause they were always out of stock and shipments were every few months.

Get one with a seal as you don't want any unfiltered air getting into your engine as dirt inside is never good.

Ralliart was the company that did the building and R&D for the rally evos. They came out with many aftermarket parts, from bolt-ons, to suspension. Once pulled out of rally, there wasn't a need for Ralliart anymore. Ralliart declared bankruptcy in 2010. Yes they are like Nismo for Nissan, TRD for Toyota, etc. Though, arguably has done more for than the others did for their counterparts.

The Ralliart filter is a dry filter and is re-usable. If over-oiled, the wet drop-in filters can get oil into the MAF, which can ruin the sensor. I really regret selling my Ralliart drop-in filter. But I don't have a X anymore anyways

hmm i wonder if ralliart filters can still be found along with their other parts.

So i'm thinking to find either a Cosworth or a Works one as I've seen them to have the the best reviews of performace. I think i'm def gonna go with a dry filter. I mean I know some say the oil thing is a myth but y take the chance?

So after some more digging, this is my thinking right now.

I like what I've read about the Works filter, but it seems to be a filter that requires oiling. Is that true? If so I may say no as to the same reason as K&N. Why take the chance with the MAF deal.

HKS seems to be popular just cause it's cheap. But cheap doesn't always mean good. I also don't like the thought of no rubber gasket.

Is there anywhere trustworthy I can look for the Ralliart filters? Seems like they are legit and dry filters. I read nothing but good gains and filtration from those filters on the forum. They are pricy though.

thoughts?

I'm a big HKS fan, but them not having a rubber gasket really bothers me. Could add a silicone bead to it, but who wants the trouble.

What about Cosworth?

Ralliart declared bankruptcy, it was complicated. From what I understand, they weren't going to R&D any new parts, but may still sell their other parts. But on the same token, I believe rhdjapan and japanparts.com both said ralliart was pulling off their sites. If you can find one, it will be on one of those sites.

I will look. Thank you.

If I can't I think I'm torn between Cosworth and Works. Am I right Works is an oiled filter? If so that may be a no no.

Migs is this the right one? Looks like still have it.

https://www.japanparts.com/parts/detail/39304

I assume in the case with the RA most parts between the Evo and RA are interchangable. Esp in a drop in filter i doubt it matters, but just checking. This seem cheaper than I heard Ralliart filters go for

^keep in mind also you're dealing with the shipping charges. For that price idk about the Ralliart filter as its not even reusable.
