I keep you all posted on my results, which will be within two week, heh.
Last night I installed the Cosworth, taking out the HKS I have had installed. After driving around with the HKS for almost two weeks I can say the Cosworth sounds pretty much like the OEM filter. The HKS has a fuller sound, a less restricted sound with more of the high and mid range sound from the engine.

As far as HP gain or driving experience, the Cosworth and HKS are too close to call. I noticed a performance improvement when I went from OEM to HKS, but I cannot be certain right now if there is a loss or gain going from HKS to Cosworth.

The Cosworth's gasket seems like the way to go for me, right now. It is fall here and I don't need tiny leaf particles getting into my engine. The OEM and HKS had small leaf bits on them. I can see running the HKS when pollution isn't a large concern.

I am full factory tune and parts besides the drop-in filter.

hahaha....true.

I'm still torn. I do want that HKS sound...but I really want a gasket on it. I still haven't decided.

It's fall here too. On my old car, my intake filter was always showing those little leaf particles. I anticipate them passing into the motor on a filter with no gasket.

sounds like Cosworth is the way to go.

If you guys are really worried about a gasket, you can trace the filter and cut one out yourself. A little super glue, and you're all set.

Shouldnt HKS have thought about putting a gasket on? But that probably helps with making it a little louder. If you made your own gasket it would probably get rid of some of the sound due to less air flow

The "gap" with no gasket is incredibly small and I can't imagine it being an issue as far as debris go. I have a feeling the gasket is there simply to reduce the noise, as it creates more of an air tight seal.

Since I now have two drop-in's, I will use both. I will keep the Cosworth in there until leaf armageddon is over with at least. I do like the HKS sound but it has its applicational place (ie, using with little air debri present)

Spring and Fall seem like a bad time for air pollution. Winter and summer... well, that depends on how on where you live and how much wind there is.

anyone know of the Apex'i drop-ins? i haven't looked if there is an application for us, but i was reading DSPORT for this month and saw that they produce them. i read somewhere that the Apex'i was just like the stock media.

Apexi have them. I think they're a wet type filter though.

Anyone have a link to where I can buy the HKS filter? Mitsubishiparts.net has it on backorder, and I don't like waiting

I got mine thru Speed Corps. Not sure if they are on the site, but just e-mail them if not.

There is more boost at the points where there are gains...So instead of peaking 23psi, you peak 26psi with it...Is this really making it less restrictive? or did this dyno click a MBC 1/4 turn for more boost?

Well, if you look where the HKS boost is higher, the power numbers are still lower, like around 3800.

And then, at least on spring actuated wastegates rather than electronic solenoids, you will see boost go higher with less inlet or exhaust restriction.

Just saying. Either way, the numbers are close. Need more dynos to verify anything, but Drop ins are not a common shootout item.
