Downpipe

So I did a quick search and nothing conclusive for a downpipe on our RAs. What's the main function of a downpipe? What kind of gains would one expect from a downpipe (I already have a testpipe)? Would the installation of a downpipe require a tune?

Cheers

The downpipe is the piping from the 02 housing(directly off the turbo) to the section where the cat is (test pipe)

Gains wise its really relative to what mods and tune you have. There has been speculation back and forth on its benefit on this stock turbo. IMO i dont see the point in changing it until i upgrade turbines.

If you did choose to install the DP and you currently are running a test pipe IMO you should already be tuned for the test pipe, and may require a tweak. If youre on the stock tune, then it would be best to look into the aftermarket to carry you forward following a DP install.

For reference (and not knowing your mods) there are other things that can be done prior that might yield better results.

If you dont have, perhaps looking into, email tunes, upper intercooler piping, and intakes/ boost pills.

Most of the time you dont have one. It's mainly assessed with having a high flow cat.

So what you are saying is that it's probably better to do other things than downpipe or high flow cat first? I got some extra cash for christmas and have been doing research upon research upon research and can't figure out what to do first. I have read high flow cats, test pipes, downpipes don't require a tune. I was gonna get the UR high flow cat and downpipe, possibly uic piping first and then get the tune next time. Is that not going to work? I just think it's dumb to get a tune now, buy the cat, dp and uic later and then have to get another tune. Anybody got any suggestions? Thanks for all input in advance!

I would just do a Tune. It would make the most power out of all those parts combined.

I would buy all the parts that require tune first and then get the tune. makes no sense to retune it multiple times over a short period of time
