Question Hi Flow Cat = Cali Smog Question

I know AMS, UR, etc, all make High Flow Cats.

I know these will pass emissions, but are they legal in Cali. Meaning if police officer, pulls you over, would they give a ticket for having a non-stock cat on the vehicle?

I know the sniffer, will pass, but do not want to get dinged with a $1000 emission ticket.

No cat other than the stock cat is legal for use in California. Police officers are individuals and have vastly different training as far as what to look for. So what makes one happy might not please another if you get them angry enough to get on their knees and see what is under the car. Same goes for smog techs doing the smog check later on. Some might notice it isnt stock-stock. Of those, some may or may not care. But strictly speaking, in California currently there is no aftermarket cat certified to replace your stock RalliArt cat. Your first smog test is 6 years after the car first sells. The law and testing proceedures will most likely change a few times between now and then.

if in doubt, don't change it in cali...

if you want to change it anyway, I'd say go with the UR ceramic core HF Cat, as that one resembles the stock cat closely enough that you would be able to pass a visual w/o any problems

Agreed with the advice above, the most conservative appearing and performing HF cat is the UR ceramic. By the way, there is really no guarantee that any HF cat will allow you to pass the sniff test, but the UR ceramic is IMHO the most likely to give you the best shot.

Thank You guys.
I am just mostly worried about passing. The visual , most of the time, is not a problem. :crosses fingers:

Looks like UR UICP and HFC on the way.
Thansk again.

I just smogged my used evo and it passed everything minus the tail pipe sniffer as it had no cat to my surprize lol I would not worry about the cops telling a difference between stock/aftermarket if a certified smog tech could not pick it out or for that matter lack of cat.

Just buy a truck and trailer and class it as and off road vehicle once it paid off.

I have been searching around.
I found Turbo XS makes a front pipe, before the second cat. Will this bolt up to the stock cat?

http://www.turboxs.com/shop/product.php?id_product=178

Any ideas, anybody else run this?

WORKS HFC is a stock cat with 3" pipe so that will work as well and its stock.

Can you provide more information, or maybe a web site link?

I know they have these for earlier version EVOs, but was not aware of EVO X/RA HF Cats...

So not worth it.

The works "HFC "works almost exactly like stock, aka, not so high flow, save your money.

Thanks Brian, I had been planning on picking up the UR ceramic, so I'll stick with my original plan.
