I'm heading to Austin, TX this weekend for a TX lancer meet, and my partner is heading out of town, so unfortunately nothing will be done this weekend

model drawing was updated last night, realistically ready for a CAD draft, but he wants to send it WITH our physical prototype for accuracy and quality

we found with the final prototype that we had more fitment than we initially thought because of different angles of where the plates meet. ECU is still moved over a few cm, but now with the better fitment, you can still access and unhook it like normal

also found that we don't have to angle the ECU awkwardly anymore, and everything literally sits like OEM. Can't really share too many more pictures without giving away design details (prototype is covered with measurements and such)

we're aiming to make this out of stainless steel for strength/durability - it will increase cost a little, but worth it in my books. once we get back next week, we will probably fit it into my car for good and let me drive/live with it to test for safety/mounting issues (don't expect any, high grade aero-space quality metal and special, strong bolts/screws are being used)

I might just live with the prototype model to get the turbo swap done earlier (had my X turbo swap ready since Jan 2011), and get my own production model later

We briefly discussed designing a strong SST-compatible intake since, through both of our experiences, most intakes out there are average/some-what mediocre, and we prefer either OEM X or AEM. Overall, we're not sure interest is high enough for the cost, or how much better you can get over the stock X intake design (for cost). I really look forward to mating up an X intake (even to stock RA turbo) and showing how overrated those silly "tube+cone filter" 's are

sorry this is taking so long, but this new partner (not ready to announce who yet) is much more ambitious and on-board with this project. when I last dropped by his shop to say hi, he was working on it surprisingly - I don't even have to ask him to!

If you want to make data collection easy go ahead and drill and tap the X inlet pipe (the one bolted to the cold side) for a vacuum nipple before the install so you can get pressure drop measurements easily with various intake setup... I need to do that as well.

very true, but the other problem my tuner mentioned that ultimately it would just be a modified version of the AEM intake. I don't see how the design could be improved any, so probably not worth the cost to compete with AEM's steady production/supply already

Anyway, I've been (still) getting a few PM's about the bracket, sorry it's taking so long

Posted this in the another X swap thread:

I don't like to skip steps, but our hand-made prototype fits perfect already, and I'm seeing that some people, understandingly, can't wait anymore

I shall talk to my partners with this project and see if this is something we should/might/can do. If the risk of producing a bad batch of brackets is too high, I wouldn't want to risk people's money/time just because we wanted to rush them out

thanks for the support/interest!

we've all been busy, but will have an update tomorrow! Just welded together a few pieces to it tonight, but then had to tune another car

this is so beyond frustrating. the amount of space to fit the battery is so cramped with those stupid posts that hold onto the OEM airbox

I know a lot of people are waiting on this, but to help illustrate the difference of fabbing a piece and producing one for the masses - today should have been the last prototype before sending it for a CAD drawing. We found now after putting all of it together that we had to make a 0.01 inch adjustment to make it fit - otherwise the battery rubs against the strut-bar or something else conflicts

0.01 inches is fine if it was just my piece, but we won't have laser precision accuracy to ensure all pieces will be made 100% the same. there HAS to be a tolerance range in order for this to be a safe, well-fitting, and usable product

will have another update saturday

All good Exyia, I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we appreciate what you are doing here.
The end result will be worth it mate. Let us know how you shape up on Saturday

Update?

No rush though, just anxious to see what you end up with as a final product. Make sure it has a bow on it though if you take pics.

lmao. thanks for the support through this painful wait. I can't stand how small the stock RA turbo is anymore

we (me and the current people involved with this project) are getting tired of this. I am dropping off the car Wednesday so the WHOLE day can be spent to make at least ONE fitting piece on my car. The approach we're taking is just taking too long - we're going to get one fitting unit and worry about fitment on production models next. One step at a time - we tried to line up everything to make a perfect shot and it's obviously taking too long (remember, we're talking +/- 0.02 deviation ruining fitment)

so I will have a fitting model done by wednesday guaranteed. And these new guys working on this project are much more recognized and respected
