Tranny & differential fluid change

I recently purchased some stuff for my RA from someone on craigslist and he was kind enough to give some words of wisdom.

Basically, he mentioned that since my RA is approaching 20k mark, change the tranny & the differential fluids. If not, the clutch will start slipping.

What do you guys think? Does it make sense to change the fluids now or wait until the scheduled time?

Also, how would you know if the clutch slips?

I don't know about slipping clutches. I changed the SST fluid at about 20,000km simply because I couldn't abide the thought of a transmission running on the same fluid "from new" to the supposed 100,000km change mark. Sorry, but 100,000km? Doesn't sit well with me!

Regarding the transfer case fluid change, my service manual says 45,000km... for severe conditions, 30,000km. At least that's credible, unlike the supposed SST interval.

In the end, you balance the cost, the "sleep at night" factor and any personal obsessive-compulsive-maintenance disorder afflicting you.

Not gonna lie, purchased my car used with 10k on it and now I'm at 21k and I have noticed slipping in some gears. Kinda strange to explain when and how it happens but most noticeably when shifting down from 6th to 5th and hiittin the gas I can feel some serious slipping. My guestsmation is about 1/2 a second of just pure slip when using manual/sport. Idk if that's cause it's at 20k or just the abuse before I got the car or the way I drive it. Never the less it's been on my mind for the past month and I have been taking it easy on her, thinking of calling up no limit and having them put in some ssp fluid and get the filter changed. Ill keep yall posted.

I've got 30k miles on mine, and have zero slip in the tranny, but I rarely drive WOT. I'll probably end up changing the tranny fluid next year unless I start noticing an issue.

lol, I've transitioned to cutting the severe schedule in-half and working off of that. Nothing like 1500-2000 mile oil changes and the like. Good thing I work where I do or it could get pricey.

Glad to hear your faith in us is strong. You know we work WITH Devin whenever possible right? I think I personally delivered his last batch of SSTF! Just kidding, he'll be sure to take good care of you, as always.

So, I called up a local tuning shop and asked about the tranny flush. I was told that would cost $550 including fluids. When I called the dealer, their quote was $150 with fluids.

Is the dealer clueless of what I am asking (which would not be the first time) or is the local tuning shop trying to overcharge me?

The dealer, in this case, is clueless or doesn't know which transmission you have whether you specified or not. That sounds like a standard quote for a CVT trans fluid service. Dealer COST for the fluid alone is around $100 per 4L.

I can get you a quote here, if you're interested. PM me.

I had the same issue with a dealer here in NC. He quickly quoted me $149 because they were having a sale. I implored him to check his manuals again and research the exact fluid for my car. He called me back 20 mins later and insisted the price was correct. Needless to say, I won't be taking my car there. I'm probably going to end up doing it myself.

If I can catch Mitsubishiparts.net during one of their free shipping specials, I can get the fluid and filter for about $320.

It seems like it. I am pretty sure that the fluid costs are $100+ per gallon. And the SST trans uses about 2 gallons so a $200+ right off the bat.

I think its safe to say that dealerships everywhere are full of retards. It doesn't seem hard to change the fluids. A couple of nuts to drain & refill. The hardest part would be to raise the car to get under it. How r u planning to raise your car? Just on a ramp?
