4b11 running rough on idle ticking noise
Hi Guys,
I've noticed after cleaning the engine bay and running the car it runs sorta rough, it honestly sounds like 1 or 2 pieces of metal fluctuating around in the engine. It's regularly serviced (has 22000km's prob about 15000 miles) and my mechanic pulled up on that today.
I've put a KN air filter in yesterday and change the fuel pump relay to a green and the car's being serviced today by the first independent mechanic to work on the vehicle. Anyways he mentioned it to me and reckoned I've been driving it pretty rough(I don't smack redline and baby the car so i might have a spirt once or twice a week for a couple of minutes but thats it I mean I'm no angel either but definitely not trying to kill the car every time i drive it) and it sounds like the cams but would see how new oil and a engine flush worked.
I've placed in a fuel injector cleaner yesterday and a fuel octane booster on Saturday (both times i topped up the car first).
Any ideas? I'll report back on what he discovers, but I would think for a stock vehicle with no flash that i really shouldn't be having problems if i service it every 3000 miles and respect it especially this early in it's life.
Cheers

Will it be a permanent thing? Whats the best way to run additivies or just avoid it all togther?
The mechanic changes the oil and run a engine flush and the noise is bearly noticeable now and he thinks it's normal but the oil was pathetic apparently. Running castrol edge 5w 30 now so hopefully she runs like a beast.
On a side note, Pedders who done my suspension forgot to put bolts on the bottoms of the back shocks or something and he said that could have been a massive problem. From now on the car will be serviced at least every 3 months
.
I'll report back on the full detail on everything just incase anybody else may have this problem.
Thanks for the reply sstevojr

Very possible that the service shop you used to visit was using non-synthetic engine oil or the wrong viscosity oil (or both), especially if you were getting excess ticking from the cylinder head.
It's not uncommon to see someone unfamiliar with the Ralliart try to use the standard 5w20 or synthetic 0w20 regular lancer oil by mistake, this can most definitely cause some extra valve-train noise, as well as some premature component wear. As long as you have the right stuff now, however, I wouldn't be too worried since you said you weren't overly aggressive and you are still somewhat low in mileage. The engine flush was probably a bit excessive, but as long as everything is better now, there should be no worries from here-out.
This was a common issue when many manufacturers, including Mtsubishi, started getting away from the 10w and 5w30 oils and switching to 5w20 or 0w20, and it may be the case here.

Hi all &chi-town, It may have had crappy dealer non-synthetic running through it. After Flushing it he explained it hardly makes any noise and not to be concerned with it but said the oil was definitely poor after draining it with the flush.
After running around in it after the service, ( And driving a low 11's r33 gt-r just after the service it) I can definately confirm it feels alot more rev happy and i can't really hear the noise it just sounds like the pistons up and down now which im grateful for
new set of wheels as well but yer if i learnt anything out of this, It's to make sure your oil changes are regular with quality stuff
and don't run the fuel additives just keep to recommended material .
Cheers guys helpful as always
