Hey Guys,

I have an 09 RA with 50k on it. Lately, I have noticed that when I turn on my car after its been out in the cold for a long time, the car starts up just find but there are 2 separate knocking noises from the engine bay maybe like a second apart. So its: start the engine *knock* 1 sec *knock*

Other than that the car drives fine and no really problematic noises during the drive other then engine revs. I'm just wondering if someone could explain to me what these 2 set of knocks might be and if they are at all a cause for concern?

 

Does it sound like a rattle or a knock. My TC-SST has an awful rattle, doesn't sound like a engine knock, more of a rattly tap. Really listen to it, if it doesn't have a constant pattern and constantly changes rhythm and tone it's the tcsst, if its a metal banging you blew your engine. The TCSST noise is normal

 

You would know if u blew it. Most likely it's the tranny. Mine gives a couple hard knocks at startup too. Then rattles until I take it out of park.

 

That or fans kicking on etc

Mine does a metal on metal sound when i turn it on sometimes. I always figured it had something to do with my aftermarket exhaust moving around at start up since i never got it to fit just right
