Was the TC-SST revised 2011+?

After lurking and reading around on the internet about the TC-SST and the nightmare of failures that other owners have had, I've yet to find a 2011+ have a transmission fail at low miles. I've seen '09's and '10's fail below 50k miles but never of 2011+.

My question: Has Mitsubishi revised or updated the transmission in anyway? Would the firmware update for newer models also affect this?

Thanks!

I don't think--and I'm sure someone will set me straight if I'm wrong here--there has been any official word from Mitsubishi stating that they have. However, for reasons that you have mentioned, a number of people do believe that they did make some changes.

It's more along the lines of, they are allowed to work on them now. Before, they had to send them back to the manufacturers for analysis; probably due to contractual agreements. So, simple things like a "blown" seal on the clutch pack (or even a relay that was accessible with the transmission still in the car) can be repaired by the service techs. Where as before, even the simplest fixes had to replace the transmission, which inflated the false notion that these transmissions are fragile.

Also, tuners are more aware of the requirements of working on cars equipped with this transmission.

Some of the older ones had 3 drain bolts. My 2011 only has 2.. so thats at least one change that I know of.

Certain transmission problems have been reported to occur more frequently on the 08-10 Evo X MR and 09-10 RA more so than on 2011+ models. This is what I have personally seen and heard about in my area. Full transmission replacements, and in recent months, clutch pack replacements have been common. This does not seem to be a function of mileage.

One can assume changes may have been made by Getrag or Mitsubishi to later models to correct deficiencies, but this is only an educated guess. I doubt either is going to be sharing that information with us.

I believe the # of drain plugs changed somewhere around 2010 from 3 to 2. As well, according to the specs I see in the service manuals, total amount of fluid in transmission changed from 7.5L in 2009 to 7.6L in 2011+ I believe.

I'm sure there was something changed. To go off the TC-SST topic a bit, the engine's timing chain was changed and so was an oil squirter and I never really heard much about it.

Little things change as tech service bulletins come out and further research goes into the program.

Car manufacturers don't just put the car into production and totally stop development of it. There's always the funky things wrong with it that need fixing that weren't seen by real world conditions in a computer designed environment.

^^ For that reason is a good a idea to wait at least for the third release of a particular model.
Must of the time many of the bugs are fixed.

So far i have had zero issues with my 2012 where i know a few guys with 08-10's who have weird little issues in their RA's. Im hoping the 2012's SST have been basically perfected of the all defects from the previous model
