Ecu flash/evo scan for dummy help

Ecu flash/evo scan for dummy help
Sorry, I'm paranoid about getting this right.
1. Buy laptop - check
2. Buy tactrix cable - check
3. Get ROM ID from my tuner
4. Download definitions for ecu flash from golden evo
5. Download definitions for ecu flash from golden evo
6. Do I need any other definitions for standalone tactrix logging?
7. Am I ready to plug in and log?
8. Is evo scan read only, no chance of changing anything without using ecu flash?
