My Turbo upgrade thread
Hi Guys,
I've sat back for ages waiting for money, patience, knowledge, the moon sun and stars to align and I think it's all together now
I want to start the upgrade process and have been reading through a bunch of upgrade threads, evo x mod threads etc and want your opinions.
I want to run more HP for street/drag purposes but also want the occasional(once every 6 months or so) 5-10 laps around a track and want to have my setup reliable as possible without pushing the boundaries
and exploding on me.
I've seen figures and numbers and from what I can see and after a stack of chatting with Beeble(he will be tuning it
) I want roughly 300kw atw(~400ish hp) .
My current modification list is attached to my signature but naturally some of that will not come across.
===Plan===
*Battery
I'm going to get my friends brother to re-wire my battery to the boot(trunk #merica
) he mentioned he can run it under the car or through the car and I'm assuming through the car is better
but also had to decide on what sort of battery
*Choosing a suitable intake option
I was thinking AEM with a perrin flexi intake to the turbo but not 100% sure again. I'm sure I can source a evox intake snorkel(not sure if it just fits straight where the ralliart one does). Now as far as plumming back from the bov I have no friken idea I'm a bit lost of this part I'm hoping someone might be able to elaborate whats required.
Also does the Ultimate Racing top pipe just need a different coupler to connect onto the bigger turbo or is the pipe completely different?
*Trans cooler
I want to get the AMS trans cooler, I'm not 100% sure between that or the SSP but in all honesty from what I've seen of AMS when they produce something to fit, it actually fits word for word and I don't want to be stuffing around with the parts I fit myself(intercooler took me ages to fit and included me taking off the reinforcement bar when it wasn't needed so :P)
*Oil Cooler,
I'm not sure what to do here. I think theirs a market in it for Ralliart owners and I'm willing to work with a vendor if you were thinking of designing one and needing a prototype tested
I'm all ears. If not I'll have to figure something out I guess but I want it to work and work well and be as flush as possible not a hack up job(something I would do without guidance).
*Injectors.....
I've read horror stories about ralliarts and DW and I have no prejudice against them but I dont want to end up like bronto or hotshot1(pretty sure he had dw's). So I want it capable of e85 so I'm thinking 1000 - 1200cc injectors but have absolutely no experience in this area
*Fuel pump
I would not have a clue but it needs to support 300kw/e85 with ease. Realistically my thinking would be to have something oem like and sit in the fuel tank so Boomba racing looks brilliant and I really want it to be set and forget rather than having 2 points of failure if I had a inline interceptor but willing to listen to opinions but the major thing again is reliability. I'm aware things can fail but without pushing the absolute limit of things I'm sure the right pump can serve me well.
*Turbo....
I currently have a stock evox turbo that I'm getting hiflowed through GT pumps GTpumps EVOX 712GTP Turbocharger. I think this will serve my needs well and I'm pretty much set on it as MAP or FP wouldnt be able to compete with price because of a international shipping pov(not knocking their products). I'm not sure about shielding /cover for it but feel free to advise me
As far as lines go, I'm thinking the MAP Mitsubishi Ralliart to EVO X Turbo Swap Kit but I can't get a answer on whether they can give me a braided SS setup
*Manifold, Dump etc etc
I wanted to get the map short runner but it's no longer on their website... I've heard a few peoples have cracked but I'm sure it's all sorted now.
I also was thinking the map o2 eliminator pipe but I don't know if it will match up to my CP-E cat but open to peoples thoughts
*Cat Back
This will either be a Magnaflow or CP-E with a resonator. I drive it daily and as such prefer a quieter tone.. Sleeperspec is the best spec haha.
*Electronics
Dunno what gauges to install. Obviously a boost gauge but analog or digital?? I've got a innovate wideband so dunno about the gauge for that. Fuel pressure gauge, volt gauge. I've got a grimspeed 3 port ebcs already installed so obviously I dont want anything that will conflict(be redundant) but let me know what you think I should have.
My brakes are pretty much done with the APE kit(few minor things to tweak but it should be sweet).
Now as I'll be doing this in stages this is my plan of attack
1. Catback
2. Turbo install(Intake, exhaust parts, injectors, fuelpump and obviously the turbo itself) I wanted to see if a stockish evo X tune would be possible with the larger injectors and fuel pump. I wont have all the cash required on day dot so I wanted to run lower power on the setup until I can get the trans cooler, oil cooler and all my gauges installed ready for beeble to unleash her.
3. Trans cooler, Oil cooler, Gauges..... Complete transmission and diffs flush and refill
4. Have beeble produce as close as possible to 300kws atw on e85.
5. Ultimate goal, Break 11s on the 1/4 mile and be banned from attending it until I get a ANDRA licence to return haha
Hopefully this makes sense and I can achieve this and start complaining about 150miles to a tank fuel usage
. Thanks in advance

For Betty (My $.02 worth):
1. Use an EVO X oil cooler and just modfy the w/w bottle.
2. If you run the battery cable under the car - be sure to tuck it up securely under the frame and not where offroading can pull it, nor where any metal can chaff through the insulation and then BLAM! Sparks! Death!
3. Fuel pump will need to be replaced . You don't want an inline booster pump. This is due to the need for more volume for the bigger injectors (not more pressure - which an inline boost would provide). So compare flow rates at equal pressure when shopping for this bit of kit, eh?
4. For the gauges - how about this... Buy the Pioneer AppRadio2 or 3, get DashCommand and the wireless ECU reader to set up electronic gauges on the 7" touchscreen radio for when you need them without cluttering up the car...
DashCommand will even accept wideband inputs too. (and you can display all the NAV, Pandora, etc. that is on your smartphone as a bonus.
