Nope, just clean the chrome, spray, and let dry.

I imagine a coat of clear would make it too shiny and maybe difficult to remove.

I agree! I've wanted to do it for a while but never got around to it...completes the black-on-red look.

I may have to try out the plastidip.

I painted the ring with the Duplicolor Trim paint. Sanded, and sprayed, no primer. Turned out ok, but a small... "hole" appeared in the paint after driving for a few weeks. Might try an adhesion promoter since I still have some of that trim paint left.

The Duplicolor trim paint comes close in color to the other pieces up front.

plasti-dip!

I live in Ontario and cannot find this damn plasti dip. Canadian tire doesnt sell it nor does home depot APPARENTLY. Both store say they do not sell it. Is is a US product only? What section would i look in to find the product. Automotive, paint section?

I've always seen it with the spray paint and what not.

You could always order it online:

You might have to look at the shelves carefully...Taranis is right, it's usually by the spray paint. It also comes in non-spray cans (which are handy for dipping wrenches/pliers in) so it might be by that stuff as well.
