The "Real Truth About Intakes" ?
Looking for real experiences with ARC, HKS , K&N System etc. I have read mostly negative things about aftermarket intakes and I simply have a Works drop in right now. It seems like there are so many out there now I was just wondering if anyone has recent experience testing/driving different models. Some appear to be well designed while others look like hot air suction devices.
Yes I have searched. Just looking for fresh perspectives.

I would suggest that you do a search on my "case study" threads - you can see many dyno sheets of various intakes with differnet mod combos
I personally prefer the BR, HKS or Injen units
A good intake is worth 8 - 12 whp gains with a proper retune

key words..."with a proper tune." imo, the drop in u have is good. your money could be better spent elsewhere, mbc, safc, etc. i think throughout my searching, i have found more threads with intake probs, than benifits, without a tune that is.

I would recommend a panel filter if you weren't planning to get the car tune. However, we have seen Helix intake making 8-10 whp more than any panel filters after installation and retune. This is for a car thats tuned perfectly and then retuned after the intake mod.
Thanks,
Tom

I was a dyno day at Turbo Trix that Shiv was at tuning a couple of my friends cars, he recommends the stock intake. he said aftermarket intakes mess with the MAF readings and that the stock intake flows enough. I would have never thought about it until he said that and explained. just what Ive heard, and will keep in mind when I buy my evo

For you guys who have the HKS intake, I wonder if you know how poor a job the HKS filter does at filtering out dust particles. A couple years back, I picked up an option magazine that did a filter shoot out. The Apexi, and K&N came out on top for good filtration, with the Blitz, then HKS being the most poor. While the Apex and HKS basically tied for making power.
I had an HKS intake on my 240sx, and sold it because I noticed that the inside of the intake pipe behind the filter had powdery dust accumulation. After changing to a true K&N kit, I didn't see the dust anymore.
Just a thought.
