I've revved my engine to hear the exhaust tone like that over and over with no ill effects, the car can take it. I have however gotten that odd traction control bull**** out of nowhere twice now. Once launching at the strip where I left it on by accident and it "turned off" by itself after a hard launch.

Just today I stabbed the throttle at 3500 rpm in 2nd and passed Miss Daisy and the traction light kicked on out of nowhere, yet I didn't lose traction. At the next light I shut the car off and then restarted it, the light went away and reset.

There is likely something with the software checking for wheel slippage and engine speed/rpm that can get it all upset. I've noticed that if you test the 2 step launch control and then don't launch it, the RPM's will take about 10-15 sec of high revving to come back down again. Do that with a police officer wandering by and you're bound to get a ticket! The way to shorten that uncontrollable revving after aborting a 2 step seems to be pumping the clutch. Fly by wire throttle can be good and bad, that's for sure.

I hope you can get this resolved permanently. The car should not have a problem with revving. I don't know why there are so many haters in here. Good luck.

The codes are:

U1417 Implausible Coding Data
C121C Torque request signal denied

Same as on the old car. Mechanic was shaking his head. They jokingly told me to please not touch any cars in the showroom. LOL.

Yeh they need to sort that out and create another flash to fix it in all the EVOS they sell..

The X is on my shopping list, but if it can't handle a little reving in neutral - forget it! I'll go with good old natural aspiration, like a G35 or G8.

bEst CAR G8 TFW!

Hmmm so it was the same code in the old car as in the new. That's really interesting. I just can't imagine the guys who created this car not revving it during development. Also, if this is shared between a lot of other X's, I'm shocked this hasn't come up sooner. Did the dealership mention to you what those codes mean?

I'm really sorry about all this. I would be very angry. This is as bad a feeling as pulling a brand new 530i off the lot only to have the tire pressure monitor freak out, the car think it's overheating, and opening the hood to realize BMW doesn't trust its owners with the simple task of using a dipstick.

Just what is written behind the code! I am sure we will get some explanations from someone on here.

WOW those codes are really ambiguous. guess the computer is extremely confused about something. i guess the post about the computer possibly thinking the driveline is broken is likely spot-on, like maybe it thinks the clutch is toast or something? hope the mitsu engineers figure out a fix.

I have the same problem. I get it when I drive it hard and my rev goes past 5,000 rpm. It's not the CEL, it's like that triangle light "ASC Disabled." Even with the light on, the car drives fine. I had this issue for almost 3 months. I've taken it to Southcoast Mitsubishi, and they can't seem to figure it out.

Good thing I like to drive it without the ASC. Good luck figuring it out.

And all of you who is criticizing him for reving his car, chill out. This guy is trying to figure out a major problem. I know few other people with the same issue, unresolved.

"don't rev your engine"

"no engine is designed to rev without load"

holy crap, the world is getting soft and dumb.

this should be a success thread though. getting a new car for just those flaws, that were reproduced on a second car, is a blessing!

I find it funny that peoples solution to this problem is "don't rev the engine", why should he limit how he uses his BRAND NEW car because there is a fault with the car? The fault should be fixed and the solution is not for him to drive or live around the problem.

If people continue to look the other way with problems so will mitsubishi and the consumer will not get the solid package they are supposed to get when they purchase a new car.

this does not only apply to mitsu but to every car dealer, don't let them get away with this crap.

A car's engine is meant to be driven under load, not revved freely. There are a number of things you can but shouldn't do with a brand new car that can cause potential harm. I don't see how this is somehow different.
