Use of remote starter systems
Hey guys,
Anyone have a remote starter installed with their AEM EMS? I was wondering about any special issues that may be involved with installation or operation when not using the stock computer.
Thanks,
Keith

dang this is an old thread lol, but i would really like to know as well. i have a viper alarm with the remote start option (currently not working) and was wondering how this can be done since the aem requires you to hold the starter a little before the car starts.
Back from the dead.
I have a car starter on my car that I used to use with the stock ecu.
I now run an aem on my full build and I haven't tried to use it yet. I am nervous it will hurt something because the aem needs to crank over so long.
If anyone has info chime in.

basically you would need to use the "wait to start" feature this was originally made for diesels it has a programmable delay 5,10,15 sec before it will crank, this allows for fuel pump priming etc. You will also have to adjust the cranking time so the remote starter cranks long enough to start. Almost all alarm manufacturers have these options research the systems before you buy them. your tune will also be a big factor, if you have cold start problems now they may make it difficult to remote start.

i have the clifford matrix 3.5rs with aem ems. My remote start works 1 out of 3 times due to the wait for sync. I've been too lazy to take it looked at and 5-6 years later i still havent went yet. HAHA.
I'll get it looked at again since i'm in grad school in NY vs FL so i MIGHT need to warm the car/myself up in the mornings.

No, this is wrong.
You can use it all the same. Priming a fuel pump is no different then just trying to start the car with the stock ecu.
What you do want to have is a tach signal hooked up so it can *see* the engine rpm verse just a set crank time.
This works, as I have done it with a Motec.

Personal I wouldn't use a remote start on AEM. But thats just me. Good luck
right the alarm/remote start systems do trigger the ignition system before just trying to start. They will continue to crank until it sees a solid tach signal that is why it is important to hook up the tach wire. However if you want to set the crank time you can reprogram the unit to voltage check and set your own crank time. I have installed a viper 791 in a dodge stealth that had so much crap done to it it also took some time to start but the viper had no problem makeing it happen, understand these units are smarter then you think. on a side not mitsubishis are known for a weak tach signal definatly go for a signal from one of the coil packs and not from the injectors if you can-JOEYD
