Boost Issues??
Boost Issues??
Hey Everyone,
Quick question regarding the boost and timing line on the AEM Data Log... After doing a few runs and pulling a few internal logs, it is quite obvious that the boost curve and timing curve have tooo much noise and are way too thick. The car is not obviously holding proper boost but jumping around a constant +/- 1.5 psi. Normally this would lead me to believe there is a leak somewhere, but after numerous pressure tests there are no signs of leakage.
What are some issues that I might have??? I'm thinking of getting the MAP Sensor re-done.... What else???
Any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks,
Ed

try getting a gm boost solenoid in there and run it off the boost duty map with no feedback or error. i have mine set up just running off the duty map and seems to hold boost good, it over shoots a little when you get into boost but it's normal.
Sell the AEM as fast as you can. That is my advice. You will be tinkering with the damn thing forever. Even experts have to retune it every 3-4 months. I would not have bought the thing if I knew this.

First of all if you are seeing boost jumping around it could be detonation, if your knock cal table isn't setup properly it will not catch all the detonation. If you look at the internal log and see rpm go down at all when you are trying accelerate it is indeed detonation. Once you get your fuel and timing lined out it should smooth out a little bit. Run some really low ign timing and see if things clear up alittle bit, next only run wastegate pressue and see if you have the same issue. That will rule out to see how and where it is actually happening. Monitor Map Load and Volts to see if the sensor is loosing power or producing some weird feedback. If you want just post a log file with all the needed parameters logged and we can take a look.
The AEM is a handfull , especially if you don't have a handle on tuning in general. Next the AEM base maps are only to get the car started. Several of the tables are incorrect including the Advanced Air/Fuel correction map. This will cause a retune when weather changes if it isn't setup or adjusted from the start. Its for some people and not for others just as any part. I don't recommend anyone using it unless they are ready to learn the entire system. But as said it will only perform as good as the tune.

This could be true. I will tell the guy who tunes my car. I have no idea what the error table is.

The error table tells the solenoid how quickly to vary its output depending on how far off the boost is from the WG target on order to try to maintain the target. It is what is responsible for compensating for spikes, drop offs, slight fluxuations due to varying engine RPM,etc. Post up your error duty table, or your cal itself.
Dude keep your negetive comments to yourself. He is asking for help not your personal opinoin. Stop giving misinformation too. Experts don't have to retune it every 3-4 months. Retuning is normally needed with upgraded parts.
