Analyze logs: Boost and Knock Issues

I recently had my local Evo tuner shop opensource tune my car. After having the car tuned I would occasionally see the knock light quickly flash during half and full acceleration. I purchased a Tactrix cable so I could really see what was going on with the tune.

I did some 3rd gear and 4th gear pulls and I am concerned with my boost curves along with the knock (I asked my tuner for a conservative tune). Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Your boost curve looks ok, have you tried to bump down timing where the knock is going on?

The car was tuned on 93 Oct. What indicates a conservative tune? I'm new to tuning so any insight would be appreciated.

So the boost dip at 2.6K is normal? Many of the logs I have seen with the stock turbo show full boost around 3.2K compared to mine at 3.8K.

I haven't tried reducing my timing yet. I wanted to understand my logs so I can discuss the tune with my tuner and get everything worked out.

This is off..I just did some tuning today for a friend 2012 X MR he hits 245 load at 3.2K and his timing is higher for it 24 psi tapering to 18 at 7K with 210 load up top..

You have a problem.

Check the preload on the wastegate

Check the DP to see if it is hitting any thing also check for any rattles from the clutch area during spoolup.

Hope this helps

If you didn't get your car tuned by Kaizen Tuning, I'd take it to them. They're the shop to go to in MA for anything Evo X. If they did tune you, let their tuner know you're not satisfied.

There's consistent knock in one area but the rest seems random, not really at levels you need to panic though. It does look like the timing during spool is a bit on the low side. Also if your AFRMAP is any indication of your actual AFRs (prob not due to mivec or lean spool) you're overly rich during spool. Could be something up with your WGDC since in one of the logs it looks like you sit around 13psi for a couple hundred rpms.

*** First and foremost, get a AFR gauge installed and log it... Do not trust the AFRMaps to be 1:1 with Actual AFR ***

Look at the rows where your boost sits @ 13-14psi, your WGDC also sits @ 30-36 then jumps to 66, boost is following that same path.

Your Boost Target Engine Load and BWGDC maps need improvement. Your 3rd gear pull log shows a WGDC of 10.5 with a -22.5 correction @ 27 TPS... these maps are fighting each other rather than working together.

I'd say your BWGDC maps are set 0-3000 RPM and 28.8?-89.2 TPS at ~33, then ~53 3000+, the 0-3000 rpm 33 is being downward corrected, and the 3000+ is set as 53 is being upwards corrected to 66... Causing your boost curve to look like that. Either your your correction cant keep up with the swing, or your Load maps jump rapidly pre/post 3000rpm.

Personally I run my 3port WGDC maps with the first 3 columns as 0, this will prevent any wastegate action during part throttle (<29TPS), and have no upward correction set, and manually set the max WGDC in the active maps and only allow for downward correction when load exceeds my Target Engine Load vs letting the ECU upward correct for me.
