newb to AEM, a few questions

my aem should be in next week from my tuner. We originally ordered the box with the integrated w/b....but the other box came in and he is trying to get me to use the box that came in and just set up the aem with their external wideband.

1) So is there a downfall to doing this, using the non integrated box for w/b? Would you recommend this or should i def. get the integrated box since i plan to use a wideband.

2) I have been told to use the gm boost solenoid. Is there a part number for this, or are there diff. models?

3) He (tuner) also told me that i need to mount a temp. sensor, that he hooked me up with. Qustion is, is there a right or wrong place to install it. I think he was saying in the upper i/c pipe, is this right?

4) I also am getting the aem map sensor...i understand i have to hook it up to the intake manifold but i will need to fabricate a little mounting bracket to use it?
Is this normally happens?

So those are my questions......sorry for having so many. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I would love to see piqs of the sensors installed that i have questions on. That would be very helpfull

Thanx in advance for any help guys

AEM and wideband

To answer one of your questions: The AEM UEGO is not supposed to be very good. My tuner and others on this board recommend something else. My car came set up with the UEGO so I left it in. My tuner then tetsed it and said it was not picking up much of any information so he just pulled it out of the loop. GL

no downfall at all either the wideband controller is in the box (1313U) or not (1313). With the controller not integrated into the box you can run pretty much any wideband controller on the market. FJO, PLX, etc.

Yes there is a part number for this and I posted it last week or so in the drag racing section, so do a search for the gm solenoid. Same sensor used for the GMC typhoon/cyclone, and should be available from you local gm parts dealer for around 30 bucks or so. There are other solenoids as well, like the Apexi/Greddy one, FJO, Perrin, etc.

Have him mount it in the lower intercooler pipe just after the intercooler before the throttle body. If you mount it up by the throttle body it will get heat soaked rather quickly during idle.

Buschur racing makes an adaptor that mounts right where you Manifold Differential Pressure sensor mounts for like 30 bucks or so. You then can thread the sensor into the adaptor and not have to take up one of the nipples on the manifold. Definately want a dedicated boost/vacuum source for the MAP sensor. Also, the wiring for the map sensor can come from the MDP sensor that you just replaced as it has a 5V power, ground, and output which is already the input to the AEM for the MAP sensor.
