Cant keep car running with AEM....

Just got it in the mail with an uploaded MAP from the tuner. Car fires up for 10 seconds then dies. When i turn the key off, the front engine fan turns on for about 20 seconds then goes off......ideas???

If you just loaded the base map the fuel enrichment is probably too low. The base map isn't that good from AEM so keep that in mind, be careful. Fuel enrichment as in Engine Startup Enrichment.

did you go through the steps of setting it up.
Ignition sync?
TPS calibrated?
Sensors configured.
If you're just plugging it in and hope that you can drive the car, its not that simple.
its simple but not that simple
Was there any known problem before the install.

If you are planning on tunign this yourself - you should try reading some literature provided with the AEM. Or pls get a custom tune from a Factory AEM Tuner.

It could be the warmup enritchment, this is used the entire time your car is trying to warm up. Or it could be that the O2 feedback is kicking in too soon. I could be several things. From what it sounds it is one of those two things.

sounds like the warm up enrichment is not setup properly or like GTEVO said the o2feedback is kicking in. It is running for 10 seconds due to the extra fuel from the startup enrichment time table.

This EMS is not from compete newbie. No offense. :}
Before you even crank it up, put the key on ON position, and go to your laptop and make sure you your sensors are configured/calibrated properly.

From what you're saying the engine is dying just as the Start Time Ignition Advance is pulled by the ECU. The stock map initially adds 5 deg of advance and then tapers to normal timing from T+7 seconds to no additional ignition advance at T+10 seconds. However, you shouldn't have to mess with this if you've got your cold start enrichment set up correctly.

It would be helpful to know what the ambient temperatures are along with the coolant temperature being registered by the ECU. If you bring up the Engine Start template the "Warm Up Enrichment" graph will indicate where in the enrichment map the ECU is tracking. Bump up the amount of enrichment at that point until the engine runs smoothly. Bear in mind that as ambient temperatures drop you'll need to tweek the colder sections of the enrichment table.

Basically as others have said, a good dose of RTFM is in order. Read the manual from cover to eye glazing cover. Some of it will put you to sleep but a good portion of it will really come in handy, like for stuff like this.

TT programmed mine before they sent it to me. Had to make slight adjustments by phone. But all had to do with fuel percentages. This AEM unit is nutz!!! In a good way...

I hear you. I Pmd you. Its so nice to not have an open loop fuel hiccup at 5k rpms under light load.

its running and tuned. Precision tuned me in PHX last nite. Ended up putting in the factory ECU and driving up and then installing the AEM. I put down 360 HP to the wheels on a Mustang at Vivid. Vivid has a very nice place. All they need is a few couches in the back parking lot to lounge on hahaha. Anyways, its quite an indepth system. Ill try a data log tonight. ray
